Agree that he doesn't get enough praise. Our best player imo.
It’s just a given how consistently good he is, although one thing we lack with him and VDV is a CB who will aggressively head the ball away at set pieces etc, weird as they’re both fairly tall but I don’t see either of them dominating in the air like a John Terry or King/Dawson type but certainly a very cultured top top class player.

Didn’t Messi say Romero is the best CB in the world? 🌍 that says everything doesn’t it.

I know people often claim that he is slow in possession. Although that is objectively true, it is often the case that he keeps the ball until the opponents break their lines.

Yesterday, there were two occassions in the first half where he kept the ball, called for Bentancur to drop down (pulling their midfielder with him) and then broke the line with a pass to Udogie who had basically progressed further up the field in a more central position.

It is intelligent when the opponents are super compact and defensive. If our midfielders and backs were more automated in that regard, I'd argue people would be less likely to call him slow in possession.

Yeah, I've never agreed with the criticism he occasionally gets for "slowing down the play." He very rarely messes up his passes, and the sheer number of decent, forward balls he plays is worth the 10-20 seconds he takes to assess his options.

Micky getting a lot of praise for his performance but I want to show Cuti some love too. He didn't lose a single aerial duel today despite being up against Wood on top of which he made some brilliant tackles throughout the match.

He is our real leader on the pitch, so assured and reliable.

When Ange talks about how he'd rather have two £50m players than one £100m player, Romero and Van de Ven are a pretty good example of that point. What a partnership we have in place, need to make sure we don't waste it like we did with Jan and Toby.

He was unreal today. There was a point in the game it felt like it was getting away from us and he stepped up and made a huge tackle.

Agree quietly got with doing his job today and was near faultless, the free kick he gave away just outside the box was a bit careless.

If you get a chance, watch Romero after the goal. he is hunting down the Mick and seems to be equally excited. He is all in.
