at the end of the day if he is available and we have the money we should bid. it would easily be our biggest signing in years. the guy is odviously class and will definatly strengthen our side. it will give us the creativity that we have lacked since carrick and to some degree since ginola. this guy can score, pass, create and is in his prime. why not play a 4-3-1-2 with lennon behind the strikers with riquelme, jenas and huddlestone in midfield? lennon showed he could play there against chelsea at stamford bridge last season, this would also solve the need for a genuine left winger.

The lack of pace of Riquelme shouldn't be a problem.. He has more than enough skill and tricks to get past his opponents, and he's very, very hard to shake off the ball when it's in his possession.. Defensively, yeah, we shouldn't count on him at all.. He's all attack, which is why I think he'd best be employed behind the strikers with three defensive-minded midfielders behind him, or playing a deep forward with bent or berbatov in a 4-4-1-1..

One thing he also adds? He will take up 2-3 players trying to man-mark him alone! Freeing up space for other midfielders or our strikers. He is also well used to this tactic, sometimes he fails to overcome it, other times he walks around players like they aren't there..

Talk of his signing all gone quiet now? I havent seen a thing on any news sites or stations about him since his agent claimed we were bidding. Im sure the idea of him signing is too good to be true

Hit a slight snag though. Athletico already have their quota of registered non EU players. But they are more likley to get rid of someone else other than JRR

He has offically joined Athletico Madrid !! Im sort of dissapointed by this, i was really hoping he would join us, Although I have high hopes for the Prince as our creative centre midfielder.

Riquelme would have been a really nice signing, but the sort of player you never really believe will sign until you see him in the shirt. If Everton manage to snap him up they'll be even more of a pain than they already are.
