There are doubts about Riquelme's character and attitude.

He singlehandedly won the Libertadores for Boca, and carried Argentina to the copa america final, whats the doubt about his attitude?

Scored 3 goals in the final against Gremio, totalling 8 as top goalscorer of the tournament, and was the main reason that Boca actually got there in the first place.

He said he wants to go back to Boca. This isn't happening. When do we ever sign someone this good when they're actually known to be that good.

Joey, I just think from past experiences he doesn't like being on the wing? Isn't that what Barca tried? If we gave him free reign but asked him to stick to the left a bit, it might work! :p

He's the type of player you have to handle with gloves. Insanely talented at making space, and I would purely get him on my jersey for the simple fact that he played at this club.

Riquelme has to feel important, and our fans are the sort to take palyers of his sort to heart, cheering every single thing he would do, hell here he is vs. Inter, one game in the Cl against a top Italian team, if you think he was gifted space in this game, you wuold be stupid. He may not adjust, but for £10M we should bloody well try.

But at Barca he literally was played on the wing. You wouldn't need or want him cutting inside when you have Mendietta (when he was good), Enrique, Cocu and Xavi as options in the middle. As i said earlier, he could play as Arteta does. Most people think Arteta is a CM, simply because he comes inside and orchestrates things in an attacking sense, but when Everton are defending, he'll move back to the right. It's the only way I can see Riquelme being played in a Prem 442. It's the closest he is going to get to a free role. I can't really think of any examples of the top clubs giving midfield players a free role in the Prem. Rosicky is a similar tpe of player, but in the same way i'm suggesting we'd have to play Riquelme, Wenger plays Rosicky.

Can you not see Riquelme doing this kind of job for us from the right or left?

:bang: When was the last time you saw him play football? In the Copa America he was a joy to watch and stood out amongst all the star names. If he is past it then what does that make Messi, as he looked very much the apprentice compared to Riquelme's mastery.

Maybe there's a chance.......

Hmm... maybe this has still got legs - Clarin yesterday evening: http://www.clarin.com/diario/2007/08/23/um/m-01484194.htm

This could be interesting: Mauricio Macri (Mayor of Buenos Aires and owner of Boca) has come out saying that they've given up because Villareal are asking for too much money. He basically said that it'd be impossible for any other South American team to offer U$12m, as they did, let alone the €17.5m that Villareal wanted. He said that the negotiation is now closed.

Well, maybe there's a chance - though I did read on the guardian website the other day that the board had thought about going for JRR, but decided not to....

Let's just go for Messi instead:rofl:

I just think this is football, not racing, he can pass the ball, hold it, dribble, score from free´s and from outside the area, and knows how to carry teams to silverware. Im not sure that there´s players that would be much better than him for this, even more with the lack of creativity from the middle of the field.

He has speed where it counts, in the head, and would fit in a team that should be related with an attacking style, both home and away.

I cant believe any Spurs fan would not be excited by the prospect of signing such a world talent. However I also cant believe this will actually happen, dont think it will happen personally (would love it to though dont get me wrong)

I get what you mean Joey, Arteta has more apce though, which would worry me a bit until I could see it in action. Of course, with Aaron back, then we wouldn't be defensive enough on the sides/wings...
