Improbable this may be, but there're 3 things giving me hope.
1) Earlier in the summer it was widely reported that they'd offered Mata as part of a deal for Rooney. There must've been something in it for every outlet to have been reporting it.
2) It's recently been reported that we enquired about him. If the answer to that was "no chance" why would we now be bidding?
3) Even though they don't need the money, there must surely be an amount they're willing to accept?
Agree that there could be more in this. Maybe a discussion based on us letting the Willian argument go. The hierarchy of both clubs look like they have animosity but I think it's all about what's best for them both. If it suits Chelsea and he wants to come then it could be possible. Not sure where our wages cash is coming from though!
