If we are going for the impossible and bid 40 million for mata I would rather we try for ozil. Rm seems intend to sell some players, and if I were him, I would be tempted to join our revolution seeing the players that have come

Both players are on a fairly equal level, but when you consider we'd be 'taking' Mata from Chelsea, that factors in.

The thing is Chelsea will not sell him to us. RM on the other hand will consider offsetting some of Bale's payment with Ozil. The improbable thing is Ozil willingness to come.

Another thing is Chelsea without Mata will still be equally strong as they are well stock in that department. If Ozil goes to any of our rivals, we will be seriously threatened in our bid to get top 4

The most important thing is to keep bidding and upset Mourinho.... Who the fuck cares if it weakens Chelsea. I say we openly keep bidding and maybe AVB should start the mind games with Mou....

Keep up the good work Levy!

If we're getting a player in the Bale deal, Coentrao would probably be the best option when looking at our squad's needs. Not that I wouldn't absolutely love to have Ozil. But he wouldn't come here, is on high wages and I want to give Eriksen as much time as possible.

Are we bidding to price arsenal out of him, in the expectation that they won't deal with us at any price?

Say we offer £40m and even though they won't sell to us they also wouldn't sell for less. They don't need money.

Interesting thought though. Would they be less inclined to sell to us than say the goons or united? Not like there'll be big offers from abroad really...

IF mata requests to leave. IF no one else comes in for him. I could see us pinching him..

Di Marzio, spot on all summer with Spurs news I believe, says we have had a €35m bid rejected for Mata.
I'd pay £40m for him. so good. Sell Siggy and I'd almost sell Lennon too, whom I like a lot.

I think Mata would play for us due to AVB/Soldado and our recent show of ambition, but there's no way Chelsea will sell to us at all unless AVB has some dodgy photos of Mourinho at a dogging hot spot to use as leverage.

I think Jose only gets turned on to his mirror reflection unfortunately.

Improbable this may be, but there're 3 things giving me hope.

1) Earlier in the summer it was widely reported that they'd offered Mata as part of a deal for Rooney. There must've been something in it for every outlet to have been reporting it.

2) It's recently been reported that we enquired about him. If the answer to that was "no chance" why would we now be bidding?

3) Even though they don't need the money, there must surely be an amount they're willing to accept?

Thanks for the mental image of Mourinho spunking over the reflection of his own face

Maybe if they need to conform with FFP or cut down their squad size and nobody else goes in for him. But I really feel like I'm clutching at straws.

Homegrown players. Will not happen.
You can name a squad with no homegrown players in if you want - it'd just be limited to a maximum of 17. Currently we have 23 players over 21, and 8 of them are homegrown. Sell Lennon and Sigurdsson and the homegrown contingent is down to 6, but the overall squad is down to 21 - no problem as they are the last 2 homegrown players under threat.
