Juan Foyth could return as a very different player after loan spell with Unai Emery

I'd say his liabilities were due to lack of experience rather than attitude. When you consider he'd hardly played any high level football when we signed him it's hardly surprising he made mistakes and misjudged situations. In spite of that he had excellent levels of skill and calmness on the ball which can't really be taught whereas experience can be gained.

His skill and calmness are without question and there would be nothing better than his progression. The question was his judgment in taking on players in our third with semi flair moves or rash tackles near or in the box. make no mistake i like his upside but my read was he played with arrogance and that is in part due to lack of experience but it is more than that. as an ex striker who played a high press, we salivated for guys like him. sure he might beat you most of the day and even make you look silly but you were only looking for those one or two opportunities. contrast that to Toby in his prime. Toby would intercept , already know where her is going , and would make a simple low risk play and be done. we hated playing against those guys.

Because of that bias against risk in my defenders, i like the idea of playing him in front of the defenders That makes better use of his current skill set while affording hin experience. and if he has learned or learns then he could be a real gem as you wrote because he has those unteachable skills.

you may be right that it is experience only but the thing for me was that he repeated his mistakes especially the dribbling out of the back under pressure. having played several seasons with a team that had 4 Argentinians i saw the same behavior and may be guilty of projecting their attitude on him.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to compare Foyth, with a handful of top class games under his belt, to what I assume is 'prime' Toby Alderweireld. At that age and time in his career Toby would have been playing at a much, much lower level than the EPL. As I said, I think playing a bit at DM will be very good for him where anticipation and positioning is everything without being the last line of defence. I also said I don't any chance of redemption for him with Mourinho at the helm, which os a great shame IMO, especially since others (with vastly more experience) get away time after time with pretty dreadful mistakes whereas Foyth was unceremoniosly binned for his.

Agreed. i was merely pointing out the difference in behaviors. Toby didn't muck about and rarely lost it in our third. Juan has done so on multiple occasions. It's a bad habit. If he gets rid of that habit and learns thru experience or attitude to respect/understand other player's strengths and play accordingly, he could be a real talent. If i wasn't clear before, i abhor defenders attempting to dribble out under heavy pressure with limited support.

Totally forgot about this guy, has he improved or do we sell?

I have mentioned him a few times in posts. Is a regular part of a decent side currently in 5th place. Getting game time after his injuries etc is I am certain helping him to develop.
Don’t think he has a future at Spurs as he is a ball playing defender and we don’t play a passing game.
