I disagree with this - Conte did not fancy it in the end. If he had've been 100% committed to the project and really wanted it to suceed we could've made it work. Nothing suggests he did not get support from Levy. Conte had a tremednously difficult year personally and I think his family situation added a lot of stress....when things got difficult, I don't think the appetite was there to push through.

On Jose...you may have more of an argument but bottom line is the football was absolutely atrocious and in the end the fans did not fancy a 2-3 season rebuild watching us defend a 1-0 lead for 80 minutes.

To lay the blame at Levy's door is somewhat disingenous.
Levy hired them both and that's why I lay the blame firmly at his door.
We all knew what sort of characters they were and you don't hire them if you aren't fully committed to them.

Both overpaid. Both couldn’t deliver without massive cash injection. Both couldn’t work with levy. Both not right for the club. A massive L for both of them.

Conte performed better, but I think we all realize now José covered up a lot of weaknesses we had. Honestly the team he had was shocking. Peak vs Peak Jose and not even close.

It’s all a big blur at the minute. We’ve been crap to watch for years if the truth be told. Jose’s treatment to Bale from the outside was horrific but so too was watching Conte send the same team and shite formations every game. Both sucked.

I'm not going to praise Conte too much for the final quarter of last season. Like when he won the title with Chelsea, we only managed that form once we went out of all the cups and only played once a week.

Newcastle's form this season, in comparison to everyone else who has been playing a game every 3/4 days due to the world cup, speaks for itself. I'll be interested to see how Howe deals with that next year.

Both disasters overall albeit with small purple patches where it looked like things might actually come together. Much preferred Jose as a person.

Ill be honest, the last four years is going to be pretty much wiped from memory, just all feels surreal. To reflect on it you end up with 'what a waste of fucking time' . Just wipe it out move on and this period didnt even exist because really in future this will always be a period that you just go 'urgh' about.

Jose for me, he had a harder time and a weaker squad. Conte had a good first season but ruined it all by his antics in his second season. Whether you blame circumstances for Conte's behaviour I still feel he should have done much better with his squad.

I was a much, much bigger fan of Jose as a person, and for me albeit still largely negative his football edged it too. Plus he got us to a Cup final.

Really? This I don't agree with. Yes, Jose has more charisma but his football is the worst i've seen in my 35 years supporting spurs.

Pretty much park the bus, get it to Kane or Tanguy hope they do something good to create a chance on the counter. Apart from that we had literally no other plan on the ball. The centre backs would continuely just pass it among themselves before running out of ideas and launching it to no one. So painful to watch.

Conte's team played some exhilarating stuff last season. Yes it was counter attacking football but more of the type where we drew the opposition in and then passed around them with over loads on the flanks and good movement. So refreshing to see us with a variation of patterns of play to get the ball from the centrebacks to the attacking line.

I will always remember the Leicester game last season, those two Stevie B goals. The win up at the Eithad. The Arsenal win with that atmosphere. The feelings we had at the end of last season finishing 4th and seeing Sonny score twice on the final day to get his golden boot.

I think Conte edges it for me personally. I think we were more of a team under him than Jose. Though having said that, the 1-6 at Old Trafford was something special. Still a shame he wasn't given the final too. Should have let him go after if we lost it.

Conte had a lot of personal struggles with his own health issues and friends passing this year, mixed in with a weird season including a December World Cup. I don't think he was as bad as people make him out to be. Could the football have been better? Sure, but we also had countless injuries and couldn't get our strongest XI together for long enough.

Honestly hard to understand how we went from those positives to this awful season.

Perhaps if you read the whole of my post you would see why. We had plenty of injuries, mid-season World Cup, the death of a beloved coach, our manager had to have surgery which came out of nowhere and that had an affect on things, our fans getting on the backs of Emerson and Sanchez creating a toxic environment.

There are many reasons as to why we have been poor. But even despite that, up until recently we were still in the mix for 4th.

Surprised at the gap between the two in terms of number of votes. I think Jose had a worse squad, played slightly better football (really slightly), produced similar results and at least seemed to like and respect the club.

Seeing plenty say Conte didn't like or respect the club. Why is that? Is that because of that press conference where he said what we were all thinking and had been saying for YEARS?

The man came back from surgery earlier than he should have done to do his job risking his health in the process. I think that says he cared more about this than you realise or want to believe.

I read your post, mate. But those magical moments you mentioned, and the optimism they created; we never looked to build on that this season. Even before all the struggles began.

Either way, I think you misinterpreted the tone of my post. My point was simply to emphasize how disappointing and sad it is that we couldn't build on what we saw at the end of last season.
