What's everyone's thoughts on this emerging saga?

My initial reaction (whilst I don't massively rate Hart) was: 'you can't drop him!! He's the heart and soul of that club. You won't find a much better keeper. Blah blah blah'.

But, then I thought, Guardiola (or Pep, as he likes me to call him) knows what he wants and perhaps I should just shut up.

Good player - wrong system. Pep establishing who is boss, but probably could have been handled better.

My guess - Pep told Hart how he wanted him to play. Hart told Pep, how he was going to play. Pep said "Fine" but you won't play here...

I read something from Joey Barton saying the way he's been treated is "disgusting". Have I missed something? What's disgusting about it? Hasn't he simply been dropped?

A couple of seasons ago, Hart was up there with some of the best, never the best, but up there.

Commanded his box well, decent handling, passionate, good off his line and a decent shot stopper.

Hi distribution wasn't top notch (although I'm not entirely sure Loris's is either, certianly not long), but the top, top goalkeepers add a different dimension these days, they need to be exceptional (for goalkeepers) with their feet - essentially good footballers, who can handle the ball well.

Sweeper keeper... Nuaer (sp) and Loris are the two standouts for me in that sense.

Ball retention, something Hart lacks a fair bit of.

Interesting to see how this one pans out. I honestly thought Pep should have started Hart, then at least that way he wouldn't have upset the dynamics in the dressing room as it's pretty clear that Hart is the most vocal in there, he would have the whole team on his side from the start (much like what poch did with Kaboul and Ade).

Hart would undoubtedly make a mistake, therefore giving Pep justification in that he at least tried to fit Hart into his way of thinking and that it doesn't work.

Should Caballero make any mistakes or City have any poor results in this early part of the season, the press and PFMs are gunna be straight on his back for it.

I agree with Hart being dropped, I just believe Pep needed to phase it rather than immediately take him out of the equation.

See, I think Pep chose this way specifically. He went after the top-dog in the dressing room, and emasculated him in front of everyone. There is no question that Pep is now the top-dog at Citeh.

He is basically doing the same thing to Yaya - its just not quite as obvious as Hart.

Citeh are a bunch of hired mercenaries. Squad dynamics are far less important than simply doing what the manager demands, and doing it well. If you don't perform up to expectations, you will be gone. Nobody is secure.

Pep said that he wanted a keeper who could use his feet, and is calm in possession.
He said that although Hart could learn to play like that, at his age, it would take too long, hence the decision to let him go.

I completely agree with that, and they certainly need that mentality shift. Although I wouldn't really put Hart down as someone who is a mercenary.

If Joe Hart an un-English goalkeeper, I doubt we'd be having this conversation. But he is, so we are.

Is sort of how I look at it.

I also look at it as: 'oh my god, can't believe he's been dropped!!!'

Bloody tiring.

Yep, same as what he did to Ronaldinho, Deco, and Yaya at Barca. Find the big dogs, and show them who's the boss.

Joe Hart reminds me of Drako from Harry Potter - looks the part, has on the surface the right attributes, but in reality lives off his name rather than accomplishments, never really following through on the potential he showed early on or fulling utilising his talents and seemingly believing an attitude of superiority is somehow sufficient enough ammunition to succesfully negotiate his path through life. That and he has shit hair.

Shame really as Hart I think is a weak link. He has been poor for England this last year or two and think he probably needs a new challenge to see if he can improve. A few years ago I thought he was a great keeper and hope he gets back to his best ... preferably not in the Premier League against us!

Barton basically said the club isn't what it was when he was there.
No shit - they got bankrolled on Saudi Oil money and have a chairman who wants to buy success.
Said that Hart deserves better after how ever many years he's been there.

Thing is, that's just what happens when new managers come in. A player may have been flavour of the month with fans and the previous manager, but the new boss doesn't rate/want him.
Ginola was a prime example for us. George Graham didn't like him at all and got rid when he could, regardless of the fans love for him.

According to the gossip column City want £30m for him, now that must be a made up figure, or they've gone insane...

After his showing at the Euros I'm not surprised that he's been dropped. I am surprised that he's not willing to fight for his place, but I guess if City bring in another keeper and he ends up as third choice then he's got to move.

Bolasie went for £30m

In todays market £30m for Hart is not unreasonable
Joe Hart turns 30 this season - 30 million is ludicrous. He has optimistically 3 or 4 more years at the top of his game most likely as he's not a in my mind a keeper like Buffon or Cech who defy age simply because they're so astute in their positioning.

Also, the prices going in the Prem at the moment are indicitive of the money that's suddenly come in via the TV deal - can't see prices being this inflated naturally until a few years down the line. Reckon this season is something of a one off.
