This is it for me too. I wouldn't be surprised about ITK agendas etc, but I think this is just ignorance about how our system works. I'm not ITK on our transfter system but from what I've read I'd bet my house on this being approximately the roles and responsibilities (and I've posted something like this before so sorry for being repetitive :)):

- JR says what type of First Team players he needs
- DC/scouting system and (now) JR RECOMMEND transfer targets to the committee based on fit to above and getability - 'the long list'
- The committee (JR, DC and DL) agree a short-list based on discussion of fit, budget and wages, etc.
- Each can VETO proposals (Jol probably couldn't before)
- DL will DECIDE in the event of a stalemate
- DC probably INPUTs into negotiation strategy
- DL EXECUTES big negotiations, DC EXECUTES smaller negotiations
- JA will have an INPUT on some legal aspects supported by his team
- Medical team may INPUT on the player's fitness
- DL has the final DECISION on go/no go for a deal to be struck

DC will also have a fairly full remit to build a team for the future.

As I say, I'm no ITK but I have a pretty good experience about how companies organise this type of set-up and I bet this is damn close.

I think is as close to the structure as anyone has got. As you say:

Comolli: (Day to day management.)
- Oversees the Medical and Scouting aspects of the club.
- Oversees Youth Development. (Reserve and Academy teams)
- Deals with negotiations (contract and transfers) of youth players.
- Recommends the Coach (ie Ramos.)
- Makes recommendations of potential 1st team and squad signings to the Committee.

Ramos: (Coach)
- Coaches and selects the team.
- Oversees the Coaching staff.
- Makes recommendations of potential 1st team and squad signings to the Committee.

Levy: (Money man)
- Negotiates transfers and contracts with potential 1st team and squad players, with 'help' from Comolli.
- Deals with all external issues concerning the club. (Marketing, Finance, Investment, Real estate, Club links)

Committee: (Ramos, Commolli and Levy)
- Agree on targets given all information at their disposal.
- Any one can veto a deal for a potential target.

To make things clear, the only signings that are 'Commolli signings' are youth players. ALL other signings are Committee signings.

Sorry to repeat Nickspurs but its not difficult to understand.

Refering to the original post by Dragon, I find this absoloutely ridiculous to try to suggest that our DOF would have no imput whatsoever in the signing of a 16mil player. The idea that Commoli wouldn't have been heavily involved in the risk assessment, technical evaluation etc. is one that could only be made by someone who has no comprehension of the system and it's dynamics. One of the major reasons the DOF job exists is so that a chairman is not signing off on the whims of a manager, so that there is technical footbaling expertise at board level. FFS it's really sad that we make such a fantastic signing and someone has to be childish enough to try to use it as propaganda against a bloke who has been responsible (or at least heavily involved with) the acquisition of several of the best signings this club has made for many years.

Most likely because he was perceived, rightly or wrongly, as being involved in the correct decision to replace the beloved Jol with Ramos

If any of his acquisitions were questionable (which many are not) this decision (and him putting his job on the line by doing so) alone deserves our utmost respect.

Reading another article where Ramos says he was aware of Modric as far back as a year and a half ago, I think that it could just be that Ramos told Commolli this was who he wanted - not that Commolli had nothing to do with the signing. More like nothing to do with the scouting! That's all.

Yes, that's true. But there does seem to be an attempt to weaken or marginalize Commoli's position going on.

See my comments in this thread:

And I note the article in the Torygraph yesterday whose headline was:
"Credit Levy for Modric deal, says Ramos".

As you know, I am a journalist, and my journalistic antennae are twitching because something is definitely going on...

I actually replied to your post in that thread.

It's pretty simple really.
Juande Ramos will get who he wants if there is even the glimmer of a chance that said-target can be had.
If he does not feel he is getting the full cooperation of the club, then he wont stand for it, he would have no problem saying see ya.
If that means that Levy needs to get on planes and help deals move, then so be it...and if that means that DC is not the main dude, then so be that...if it means both were involved, then so be it...
So really, it's all a case of 'if Juande wants, Juande gets'...

As for Berbs, yes, I'm sure he'd love him to stay, but he is a realist and the team/squad will always be more important than the man (as it fucking should be, especially if you are the Billy Bollox of managerial talent)...thus my 'hunch' is that he's known it's over with Berbs for a while now and that he's been working hard to get his squad done BEFORE the Euros start so as his pre-season prep can be 100%.

Now yer talking.
Basically, suggestions can and will be made, the same folks still discuss potential targets, but JR is the final word without compromise unless he wants it...part of the price of getting him in...and fucking good luck to him. He is prepared to live and die by his OWN decisions and he is prepared to speak up and say he needs things like that...

i think its rubbish because Modric was next to Comolli at the game and was chatting to him at times, this is the new people want to hear but I think Comolli played a role, he canpeak quite a few languages apparently?

Indeed...In essence, the only thing which has changed between the managerial eras, is that this one makes demands which he will not tolerate being turned down. How that actually gets facilitated is (in the bigger picture) neither here or there.

Unrelated hybrid, can I ask, does your monicker relate to d'n'b???

Seems right but I would add that Alexander has a strong imput and Poyet may contribute some also depending on signing.

This is a personal agenda of the ITK or the source. Commolli was as fully involved with the transfer as ever. Come on, even the photos from Saturday show that.

Does anyone think DC was talking to Modric about plans for the new stadium expansion etc.?

My ITK (who works for the club but reveals sweet FA most of the time) says that the stadium plans are going to be announced the same week as the new kit is launched.....can't get any details out of her though.....
