whoever replaces Berbs i hope it's a relatively 'cheap 'un' (ie £12m max)

I really don't want us spending most/all the berbs money on a single striker

to me we won't get a 'Berbs replacement' (or anyway the gamble will be too expensive)

get a decent 3rd striker in - a Crouch a Kitson a continental equivalent

then we've got 3 decent or better strikers - plus Pekhart - (who has genuine potential to be decent or better)

as long as the 3rd striker is a 'target man' type - good in the air, able to play as sole striker - that'll do me

We need to be realistic. He's 27 - in his ultimate prime. I wouldn't say he's someone we overly rely on to win games. Yes, he's silky and entertaining, and scores. But Keane is a consistent scorer too and just as blessed - but Keano dosent blow hot and cold.
I can't see us getting over £30M for him, but something £20-£30 will still be sound. Ramos is a proven manager who will find someone else easy - look what he did for Kanoute. We need to rebuild as a team - and all the best teams chip in all over the park and support each other.
If he goes, he goes. Thanks for the memories, we helped him lift his world status, now show us the cash.

Hi RK - have to disagree :)

Keane is not as equally blessed, check how many goals Berbs scores/makes/is crucially involved in - compared to Keano

who is the better link player, Berbs

who blows hot and cold more? , deffo Keano

Keano has his 'running around' trick when he ain't doing much, Berbs concentrates on saving his energy for when necessary

to me Berbs is at least 50% more valuable on the open market than Keane - and justifiably so

and yes I do like Keane - but he's not as good as Berbs

Well SAF has just been saying that he's likely to bring fewer players in this summer and that they will likely be younger players. I think Berba (his agent and the people of Bulgaria) might be out of luck with a ManUSA move.

Might be less money from Milan, et al but that's fine by me. The thought of selling him to a Top 4 side leaves me cold. Please not Chelski though....

sloth - I addressed your "petulance" point in my answer above. Henry's behaviour at the goons was ten times worse than Berba's, and it didn't stop him getting a move to Barca.

If we'd spent our huge summer transfer budget on established, quality, EPL ready players in positions we needed - LM, CM, CB - then Berba wouldn't be getting frustrated at his service. If the ITK is true, we've lost a great player in the tradition of Hoddle, Gazza, Ginola, Sheringham, and the tragedy is that some of our fans don't even seem to realize that we're losing our best player.
There's a few others to answer to as well so consider this in reponse to Die Gooner's, Nidge's and P-L-P's posts as well.

To me it's irrelevant whether Berbatov is the most petulant in the history of the game, almost the most petulant, not the most petulant but still petulant, or a host of other petulant comparisons. The fact is he's a wingey old woman who likes to throw embarassing hissy-fits whilst still imagining/deluding himself that the likes Man Utd are going to be interested him.

They won't be. He's not a £25m player by any stretch. He's an £18m player tops (which is still very good btw) and because no one will fork out more he will still be with us next year.

That being the case I hope Ramos can sort him out. He needs to learn that the team is the star and that he's not as good as his compatriots and some Spurs fans keep trying to convince him he is.

On a more general front I think we can accomodate his childish tantrums if we get a few more 'winners' in the team. I'd really have liked to see him try his foot-stamping sulks in a team captained by a Roy Keane for example. Fair enough, Berbatov is a baby and even if I don't like it I could tolerate it if i didn't think there were too many shirkers or weak-willed players in the team, but as it is his behaviour infects the rest of the side and brings us down. Get in some winners, chuck the dead-weight and lets turn berbatov into a true great. The striker some of you fool yourselves into believing he already is.

What about .....Adabeyoooooor... he has to know he'll never win anything at the emirates so if he's ambitious he may be the man for us!

And it would kill off that poxy song too!

When he first came, I had really high hopes of this kid. Now I am sorry, but just can't see it.

He's hardly set the stiffs alight when he's played but his attitude/seems to be growing daily.

Hopefully I will be proved wrong ( I often am!) but I have my doubts.

fair comment drj - :) - if by looking at Pekhart in the close season JR thinks he really can't cut it - then by all means get a cheap 4th striker in too - as long as every striker we get in is a big un who can play sole striker if necessary that's the thing I'd aim for

It's true he may've missed the boat re a Man U move, but SAF is dab hand at saying things to the press and doing the opposite. He said the first week of the Jan transfer window: "I won't be signing any players", then he signed Vidic.

We'll see how it pans out.
