Anybody else getting more and more gutted about the fact that we didn't get this guy ?

I was a big fan of us going in for him during the summer, he's looked like he has superb ability for the last year or so and will end up being on the level of the likes of Silva, Mata etc. Had another great game tonight, his touch and mazy run, ending with a great through ball, was sublime. Anything under 18m would've been a snip for this guy in the summer.

Mata was last years Silva, Isco is this years Mata. All three are players that we might've cottoned onto a bit quicker and had a chance of ending up with. More Mata and Isco, than Silva, but the point still remains.

With Malaga qualifying for the knockout phases of the CL, have we lost our chance to get this guy, or will their financial trouble mean that we might still have a look in ? Will his recent form mean that he is now casting his eye on moving to a larger club than ours ?

I wonder what price they'd punt him on for now. No chance of him leaving in January I'd say with the CL advancment, but could still be available next summmer

Sometimes I honestly think the people who comment on this site have a better idea of available talent than our own 'scouting network.'

We seem to usually be about 6 months ahead of the asshats who actually call the shots.

He's still got the £17m buyout clause. Could always slap it down January 1st.

But that will never happen. Ever. Sadly.

Still, I find it strange that we were haggling at around 12m for this guy. If we look at what happened.......

- we got rid of VDV last day
- we clearly were pursuing Willian at one point
- we purchased Dempsey as a fill in winger, AM and striker

Surely, we should've got this guy instead of Dempsey ? Yes we would've been a fill in striker lighter, but Isco is young, at a club that needed to sell, supremely talented, can play in more than one position that we need ( hence our moves for Willian and Dempsey ) and would almost guarantee a profit down the line. He is actually someone that most likely will be at least as good as Modric or VDV. Personally, I would've far preferred it if we'd just kept Kane as a third striker and brought in Isco instead of Dempsey. Not really hindsight talking, because this has been bugging me all season !

yes he still has the buyout clause and malaga are said to be offering him a new contract worth €1.5m a year which is about £23k a week.

Anyone who thinks that this one might still happen is living in la la land. As I said at the time, we only had a very small window of opportunity within which to get this guy, after which he'd be beyond our reach.

Just have to hope that we don't hesitate the next time we have an opportunity to grab a potential superstar prior to his breaking big. I'm thinking that Adam Maher might be next in line.

why? his price can't go up if he doesn't sign a new contract... all we have to do is pay his release clause. Not saying we could beat another team for wages but it's not like Malaga can ask for more money

Apparently Man City are after him but he has said if a fee gets agreed he will leave Malaga, problem is Malaga are still in a dodgy position, yes they have progressed in the champions league but Uefa are withholding the money so all aint rosy yet.

As I understood the family in charge of Malaga are interested in owning the whole sea front and werent much interested in the club there was one guy dealing with the family, who passed away and then the shit hit the fan and the relationship between the family and club broke down. This led to the lack of paying the player wages and the selling of players like Carzola to pay the wages owed for the year before, Pellegrini said he would manage the club for free until October and if the wages weren't paid then for a year(iirc? or from august to October), he would consider his position

Recently(a month or two ago) a member of the Royal family went to their first game in the champions league and it seems it is moving in the right direction again but I haven't read or looked in to that since.

I think Isco is gettable if levy is willing to part with the cash to activate the release clause Isco, a couple of months ago they would wave the VAT and I dont know if they are still willing to do so but seems likely imo, unless 2 clubs go in for him. I wouldn't be surprised if the players still havent been paid and are just staying to play in the CL but Isco did say if the club needs the money, he will leave Malaga and likely abroad

I do however think we have missed the boat on him and it is a little too late

He will come good but different types of players and Dempsey was the silly signing imo not Sig

Totally agree. I'm just having a really hard time accepting the Dempsey signing. I just never was that big of a fan of Dempsey and felt Fulham really was where he should have stayed and made his mark. Oh well, I just hope he can turn it on a bit.

I dont think Dempsey is a bad signing just what the signing represents imo, he will be better of Ade but my issue is
  • why was he signed?
  • Is he a back up striker?
  • Is he a starting AM?
  • Is he a back up Winger?
  • Why give him a 3 year contract?
  • Is he a pienaar signing, i.e to make a profit?
  • Did we just sign a player that we will struggle to get rid of like Pienaar, Kranjcar and etc., with us keeping him only because we cant get rid of him?

Sad. Just can't believe we couldn't pull the trigger on this one when we had the chance. If we can't get him we desperately need to find a couple of players who have something a little extra in their locker. We seem to have swung from one extreme to the other. last season we relied too much on moments of genius from one of our special players to win us games and this year we seem to play in a structured fashion which without the genius looks very dull. I think we are going to continue to struggle against teams that are tough and well drilled because we just don't seem to have a spark.
