Everyone bar our right side really impressed me. Huddlestone was exposed later on, but then he shouldn't be playing as a box to box. I think we had to make do with him there due to lack of options.

Really? I though Corluka was fantastic yesterday. On the one hand he seems so pedestrian (compared to others) but he played with assured positional play & awareness and was comfortable through out. He made it look effortless. Anyway, that was my view from the East Stand maybe it didn't come across like that on tv.

But he was caught napping/out of position a few times. King even had to bollock at him for doing so (when he passed the ball back to the keeper after Corluka failed to pick up Torres (I think))

I have to agree with Kendall, the off the ball movement and work rate was top-notch. They have obviously drilled that a lot in pre-season and it worked superbly. We managed to completely stop Liverpool in the first half due to the closing down and good defensive play. In fact at half time we had 10 shots to Livepool's 1 (which was a speculative strike from Gerrard from about 35 yards which Gomes had well covered).

It was only really the last 15 minutes where we let up a little bit and Hudd/Palacios dropped a little deep and we allowed Liverpool to come onto us that they looked at all dangerous. Can't think for the life of me why Liverpool started with the completely one-dimensional Babel (who despite a couple of mistakes was totally controlled by Corluka) instead of the again impressive Benayoun. For some reason Benayoun seems to be a bit part player at Liverpool, despite being one of their more impressive players. Maybe it is a reputation thing, but you would think Rafa would pick a team that has the best chance of winning.

I thought we were excellent and I hope we can continue that kind of form away from home in the next couple of games. As for Liverpool, they were poor especially considering that they were a lot of pundits predection for Champions this year. I know there is a long way to go but they will have to improve quickly.

Bassong looked good, King was immense as usual, had Torres in his back pocket all game. Palacios and hudd locked out gerrard. They played poorly, because we made them play poorly.

Hit that one on the head. Bassong and King kept a great connection with THudd and Palacios -- who in turn distributed excellently and intelligently.

Looked great

Finally a season we can get our hopes up after the season has actually started.

he's at a big big club!

This has nothing to do with this thread, but can you please bring back your ginola avatar? Your current one kinda creeps me out and it's on every page of every thread. No offense if that's you.

if King can stay healthy -thats the key. King, Palacios and perhaps Bassong can grind the shit out any attack. keep your fingers crossed!

I absolutely loved the core of our team yesterday. King and Bassong were immense at the back and Hudd/Palacios complimented each other so well and I think this is the CM pairing to really take us forward! IMO Keane did far more than Defoe in the first half and was really unlucky to not get a goal out of it.. Everyone always forgets how many goals he has scored for us over the years. Our defence is really strong and as long as we can keep one of woodgate or King fit to play alongside Bassong then we have a real good chance of pushing right up the table.

Such a relief to hear the whistle at the end of the game but really felt like we deserved it 100%... Well done Harry, great tactics and well done the boys for a great performance!

I was really impressed with the way we closed down and worked hard yesterday, not giving liverpool any time on the ball.

Hopefully it didn't take too much out of the lads for wednesday night as that will be a completely different game as hull will be looking to do the same as we did againist pool.

early days yet but we could'nt have asked for a better start. We just need to carry that over to the next game.

It's a great start... But let's not kid ourselves... We're usually pretty good against the big clubs - What was noticeable about the Jol era was that we weren't, but also it where we were most consistent and had our best league finishes... How we do against Bolton and Birmingham, etc. will show how much better we are..

I was impressed by the discipline, that's often let us down, last-minute bottling has been a hallmark in the past....

I think our first team looks strong.... we've got good cover (though it's injured at the mo.) at the back and up front - though I'm still not convinced by Keane and Defoe. Apart from the misses it seems Keane did OK yesterday, but not sure how well he linked with Defoe...

My worry is midfield - unless Bentley and GDS step up a lot we would miss Lennon or Modric, and I can't see anyone who could step into Palacios's boots... If Harry is going to sign someone, I'd go for a strong holding midfielder who isn't going to mind sitting on the bench for a while.

He is a very good player and was one of Liverpool's best players towards the end of last season. Made more of an impact in his brief cameo than almost any of the rest of Liverpool's attacking options in the rest of the game.

Admittedly he came on when we were very tired after a brilliant effort in closing down all game, but I still feel he is very undervalued by Rafa and underrated by many football fans.

Yes, I think he is so clever and skillful and with a good eye for goal. It would be interesting to know what Liverpool fans think, because I watch them a lot and see the goals he scores, but maybe I am missing something fundamental that he lacks. I just don't see the appeal of Babel at all.

Very impressed, was the first time I watched Spurs and wasn't nervous, even when they equalised I knew we would pick ourselves up and go at them again. How many times in the past would we have fallen to pieces?

Thought our back line was strong and more importantly confident, not bad conciderign our CBs had played very little preseason. Its so obvious King is so important for us not just as an individual but he organises everything and the other players respect him ad do as he says. Such a legend for us and I only wish he had less problems. Future manager? lol ok a lil a head of myself.

Midfield was good especially the centre, never been a huge Hud fan, basically because I feel he doesn't put himself about enough and always seemed to need to much protection to play well, he was a different player yesterday. Palacios was great, as has been said so often we have been crying out for a player like him for a decade, hope he stays with us because I am sure there will be alot of "bigger" clubs having a word with his representitives. Modric was solid no problems, seems to have hit the ground running and found his place in the team, there is defo no need for and out and out left winger. Lennon, oh god I wish he could look up and see the forward pass, 2 really good runs that should have ended in an attempt on goal. Question is, will he develop any further? I hope so.

Up front the 2 little men did their job, pulling Liverpool all over the place and just wish Keane could have finished one for himself as that is what he needs.

Sorry for long post but just really happy with the perfomacne yesterday, if we can get a result on Wednesday we could set ourselves up for a good season.

Sorry dude, the girlfriend said 'why don't you have a picture of you?'
and chose that one, it made her happy that she got to have input in something Spurs related (I'm quite a mean boyfriend, she's had to live for a long time now with Spurs being my first love) so it'll stay for a while.

Ginola will come back one day. So far we have beaten Liverpool with this as my avatar!

Benitez made a huge mistake yesterday in playing gerrard way to far forward. He is the only player in the liverpool side who can dictate game after alonso left. Unless you are barca you will find dictating a game so far high up the pitch against a strong side to be impossible. Also gerrard and torres had to do alot of tracking back because of the other players poor passing and kept giving the ball away.

Babel also was owned by corluka. It is only when benayoun came on and drifted all over the pitch which caused alot of problems

Yossi is the man. So flippin' dangerous! Seriously, seriously undervalued. Wish we could prize him away, he'd fit in so well..

Everyones overlooking Ekotto's performance!! Aside from the goal, he was immense. 110% effort from our amazing left-back!

Well done BennY!
