Hello people. Great result today even if we do have nothing to play for. haven't seen the game yet but recored it and will watch it later.

Did however see no Jenas in the side. I personally am undecided on the guy, however i do feel that Huddlestone has improved massively, his passing is sublime and he can shot very well. I think overall he's a bit more defensive and yes not as Mobile as Jenas but with Zokora as his partner i think it may possibly be more effective than the Zokora Jenas partnership.

For anyone who watched or went to the game today, just wondering how they thought Hudd got on. Saw the goals were late on but we did get a clean sheet and i just get the impression that with Huddlestone we are a more solid unit and the wingers are given more liscience to bomb forward.

views? How'd he play, does he compliment Zokora well, Is he too lacking in pace or does his raw talent make up for that?

I don't think Huddlestone is that more defensive than Jenas. Jenas is a better defender if you ask me.

Huddlestone has like 14 or 15 assists this season, more than anybody in the squad (including Berbatov as well I think) and he's netted 4 goals (Jenas has 6). Huddlestone may not make those forward runs like Jenas but he's our only midfielder that can be considered a play-maker.

I would like to see him and Zokora play more together, although the Hudd has worked perfectly as a super-sub on many occasions this season.

i thought they both played well. zoko has stepped it up in the last few games and really impressed me, seems more comfortbale on the ball. hudd is good in games where we dominate possesion and has time on the ball to orchestarate. i still dont think our midfield is good enough compared to the 'big 4' but against the lesser teams like today they should be able to domiante

Huddlestone gets forward more than Jenas does. FACT. He certainly did today.

Zakora had no option but to step up his game. With the likes of Hudd breaking through and youngsters like Boateng and Taraabt waiting on the fringes he must have been feeling the heat as his performances have been poor this season, IMHO. If Juande was looking to sell/replace a CM then Zakora may weel be his first choice.

As regards Hudd, I am a big admirer. Sure he still has a lot to learn but his stats are impressive for his age. My main criticism at the moment would be his tendancy to go for the shot too often (much to the annoyance of Keano and Berbs sometimes) but his decision making will improve in time, particularly under Juande.

As for Jenas, I just don't know whether to love him or hate him....he is just such a schizophrenic player:bang:

At times I've raved about Jenas, Hudd and Zokora this season. But every time I think one of them has looked like really stepping up and becoming our outstanding player in the middle, they then lose their form and become a passenger for 3 or 4 games before finally being dropped.

But today, I'd even go so far as to say Hudd was man of the match. Tho obviously Bent stole the show in the last 20 minutes.

This partnership would work if we get wingers who can not only bomb forward, but provide quality crosses or final balls. I really hope Bale is our LM next year, not LB.

Aye. I think it would be one big step backwards leaving Bale in defence when he could be using his attacking ability twice as much by playing as a winger. I don't think anyone would disagree, he's much better on the attack than he is in defence.

Hudd brought the best out of Bent today... Every time Bent stretched the Pompey defence and caused them problems was from a through ball from Hudd...

We have three very good CM ... Hudd/Jenas and Zoko Pops ( on his day ...) BUT HUDD was fanttastic, as well as Zokora .... BUT we still have the missing ingrediant .... Kevin Nolan next season ....

If Zokora,Hudd or Jenas could just put in more consistant, frequent top class performances they'd be top class players, shame they seem not to.

*wheels out Stoof's sarcasm-mobile from this thread as it may be endangering our health*

Interestingly several of us pointed out that the Hudd/Zoko Pops 'Axis of Awesome' was potentially our best pairing last season and early parts of this. However, time and again they couldn't make it happen. Whenever JJ returned we looked way better and got results. Now though, it seems Hudd's improved mobility and confidence, combined with Zoko's improved discipline has made the partnership what many of us had hoped it would be.

I can quite conceivably see JJ playing some games between now and the end of the season on the right, where he was so good before Lennon broke into the side.
