With Benny the positives far outweigh any negatives.
All defenders will be perceived to have a dodgy game/moment or a weakness that is the nature of football, you have to remember the other side are constantly trying to pull our defence out of shape and score against us. He contributes oodles to our attack as well as defence.
I think he is right up there with the best full backs in the Prem. Under pressure he does some amazing things to get out of tight situations and get the ball away.
He is also the coolest bloke ever.

I think he's decent but is definitely prone to brain farts to put it one way. A prime example was the 5-2, first the shit clearance for the RVP goal and he was nowhere for the Walcott goals. Some people on here do overrate him imo because they love his personality and style. However, seeing as there's a lack of great left backs at the moment we definitely shouldn't be looking to get rid. Even if we were to upgrade on him, which would probably cost a fair bit anyway, we'd have to keep him as back up/competition because we have no depth at left back at all.

He could hold his own but doesn't have any influence/leadership skills to command others too. He has decent technique on the ball which is weighed down by weak marking. He has enough personality and style to compensate.

All players have strengths and weaknesses and Benny has his (he can have moments where he lets his mind drift for example). He's not the perfect left back, but he's a damn good one. And it's not easy finding LB's, so I have no interest in trying to replace him. I fear the need to do so in a few years when he gets too old.

However, despite the talent or ability, Benny is more than a LB. He's adds personality to the side. He makes you realize that footballers can be cool and funny and smart. In short, he is literally (and I'm using this correctly) the only footballer I have ever wanted to be best mates with. So judge the entire package as he's a great player but an awesome person.

Benni is a very good player and refreshingly honest cult type figure .

However , he is too easy going and doesn't have that desire to win .

Leighton Baines is close on the same defensively , better going forward , a leader of men and has that desire to win .

I could see Man Utd going for Baines but I couldn't see them going for Benni .

If we are serious about competing then I'd say splash the cash on Baines even though he is coming up to 28 years of age .

We need to get some leaders in our team who desperately want to win if we are serious about competing .

What? Like Napoleon? Marlborough? Alexander the Great?

Fucking ding-dong.

I would think trying to upgrade on Benni would be really low on our list of priorities. I don't see where the upgrade would come from (Leighton Baines, Leader of Men?). BAE is certainly one of the best LB in the league and consequently on the planet. His game is well rounded, he has now a very good understanding with Bale. It is true that every once in a while, he has a shockingly bad game for no clear reason. He is also incredibly left-footed, routinely doing the "one-foot dribble" up the field. But overall I really don't imagine a viable upgrade.

On the other hand, if BAE or Walker gets injured, there is a pretty big drop in quality at FB.

My favourite thing about this is that it always works! :D He must use the "feint outside, nip inside" move 5 times a game and hardly ever gets tackled when doing it. It always makes me smile.

My only gripe with Benny is his concentration level, everything else is perfect imo. If the concentration's sorted he would be top 3 in the world.

Absolutely no footballing reason to replace him, and his personality is one massive bonus.

I think this is a sad indictment of our times. Just because a footballer isn't a complete intellectual or personality vacuum, he therefore met be the coolest fucker on the planet. he's different, that's good, but I couldn't give a shit if he was Serge Gainsbourg re-encarnet, if we can do better we should.

He's great in the middle third. Doing his little shimmy thing, very comfortable on the ball. But defensively he's fucking lazy sometimes. And in a defender that is not an admirable quality. It's a mental thing.

He's also not that brilliant going forward. Which should be the natural payoff for his defensive deficiencies, but it somehow isn't.

He's technically extremely good. Some days he's all-round damn good. But there are too many days when he plays like he's just done a bong.

Replacing him won't be the easiest thing, and to be honest I'm not sure who I'd rather upgrade sooner, him or Walker. But if there is a better alternative I'd take it. But then I'd take it with any player. Cool fucking dude or not. That's just the kind of **** I am. I'm never going to be their best friend, but I do have to pay to watch the fuckers, so I want the best available within reason.

No. I'm a bit gay for Sawyer from Lost. I have very high standards for my bromances  :D

Yes! I always loved Sawyer the most (then Sayid)

Benny is great, can't think of anyone that we could replace him with. He occasionally makes some silly mistakes, but then if I'm everyone makes mistakes at work.

My fatherin law (liverpool supporter) hates Ekotto. Thinks he's absolute shite. We have arguments about him loads! He actually is completely disbelieving and thinks I am joking when I tell him I think BAE is class and one of the best LB's in the league.

the problem with you bus is that you analyse and critique spurs players to within the nth degree but there's no way you put that level of effort into doing the same for opposition players - which results in you overrating the field.
