Glad he is finally looking to be out the door this window even if it is just on loan. Hopefully he does well there and some good performances encourage teams to go for him on a perm. Makes no real sense him staying here with so many ahead of him and clearly Conte is no fan of his.

What I’m struggling to understand is if he’s turned down mid table premier league clubs as he feels he’s better than them, why agree to go to Sampdoria? A side who finished 6 points above the relegation places last season?

It’s a great move. Wage relief, shop window-type loan, and I expect him to look very good in Italy. Should he do well, he won’t be short of suitors and I’m sure we will be happy to accept a favorable deal for him going into his last year. Works out well for all parties.

There could be a thousand different reasons why he's chosen Sampdoria. I think he'll have made the best choice of those available to him and no doubt we'll hear of this in due course. We're all different and shouldn't speculate from our own map of the world.

What mid-table clubs did he turn down?

Perhaps he's come to think, or been convinced, that it's a good idea to try a year in another league to see if it suits him better. I guess for that to work he'd need to play regularly so choose a lower - mid table club rather than a top side, if he'd even had offers from any of them.

The Harry Winks thread really is it’s own version of Groundhog Day:

Poster 1: good luck to him. I’ve never understood why so many fans hate him
Poster 2: I don’t hate him, I just don’t think he’s good enough for our club
Poster 3: Harry Winks is a turd that won’t flush

and back to poster 1. For what it’s worth, I’m poster 2

Well, as the only actual poster to make comment 3, I’m glad he’s taken the opportunity to challenge himself in a different country and not just let his career stall in the hope to change the managers mind.
it feels like he was reluctant to move out of his comfort zone (club has some part to play in this by not getting him
A loan early in his career) but there must have been off field reasons why he was holding off leaving.

But the only reason I made that comment about him was because we were told that the club had received several offers for him, and he’d turned them down. They’d tried to move him on and he was refusing (despite being told he had no future at the club). Bluntly, they tried to get rid of him but he blocked each move.
Him staying was detrimental to his own career but hopefully he’s seen the bigger picture and is ready for the challenge at samp.
I hope he does well there and rediscovers some form. He’s a flawed player (like the others we’ve moved on) but he’s still an academy graduate so wish him well.

I feel embarrassed by our fanbase when i read the slagging off Winks gets...not as though he was a boyhood fan watching the Lilywhites from the stands at White Hart Lane like the rest of us, got the chance to live our dreams and has fallen short. Honestly, some rumours on an internet site has distorted the view of a lad who as spent a lifetime at our club and now regularly gets dogs abuse by the very fans of which he is one of.

If i was at Spurs would i want to hang on to every last hope there may be a way back? yes absolutely i would, i love this club deep in my heart and it must be killing the lad knowing he has to leave what he loves.

give your heads a wobble.

yes it's time for him to go...but lets show some class for one of our own.
I totally agree, I would love him to have a renaissance somewhere else, and rekindle his initial spirit.
