He would fit very easily into the Southampton midfield and do a very decent job for them - I would think though that if they have any money available it will be spent on a forward who gives them some sort of goal threat otherwise I think they may have a long season ahead

Would he? Their defense is terrible so I can't imagine them pulling Romeu or Lavia for Winks.

I think so they were in desperate need of someone to keep the ball and give them a foothold the lad Lavia was largely out of his depth but for a few moments and the full backs and particularly the boy on the left was left exposed continually - I think Winks would lift their midfield though the biggest problems are the defence and that they carry so little goal threat 9/4 to go down isn't a bad bet

Most pundits said Lavia was their one bright spot and a really mature performance for an 18 year old.

call it as you see it - I thought he looked like a kid playing in a poor side couple of decent moments but that was about it - KWP and Aribo worked hard and JWP started well but went missing they were poor - Bazunu the keeper will need to learn to kick

Winks is a decent player lacking belief. Get him with a good man manager and he'll do just fine. His confidence has been shot at spurs since Poch went. That real Madrid performance was special and I'm sure he'll go on to do alright

He’s got a good manager. He was never a decent player just had one good game then believed the hype about him.

nah, he's not good enough to have a squad number and we should be forcing the likes of him out the door.
Seems like very smart man management that couldn't backfire at all.

What's the "believed his own hype"? Is there proof he's been difficult or is this just "we don't like player X so he must be morally deficient"?

He is a decent player - but, only in the right system - and has to play a role that requires minimal defensive effort. I don't think any teams in the PL really fit that criteria.

If he really wanted to continue playing at a high level - he should have sent his agent to Spain to find a good club.

Actually think Winks would do really well in Spain.

The thing is, midfielders like Winks are plentiful in Spain. Why do Spanish clubs want to waste a foreign spot on a mediocre player like Winks? he really isn't as good on the ball as some fans think he is. He’s not a creative passer, or penetrative. He can’t score or even shoot. He's average in possession, awful without it.

You find that foreign clubs sign English players either if they are really talented, or they are fast, physical and powerful players, like Smalling, Ashley Young, and which is why Tanganga is getting interest etc

But a small lightweight English player who is mediocre in possession isn't going to get much interest from Spanish clubs. There are hundreds of better players in that league already.

On top of that, Spanish clubs are skint, and there are actually some far more talented CMs on the market like Ndombele and Lo Celso and even they are struggling to be shifted...

Fully agree. He needs a reset and the right level of club. Good luck to him.

It seems its as hard for the club to get Winksyleaks out the door, as it was for the Yanks to get Assange out the embassy...

I think Winks can play and be a part of epl squads like ie Leicester City West Ham Aston Villa Leeds Everton level . I'm surprised clubs haven't come in for him as yet. He could also play in Spain and do very well.

Leicester - he does not get in ahead of Ndidi, Tielemans, or Dewsbury-Hall

West Ham - they play 2 DMs - Rice and Soucek - he is not similar to them at all, and would not play

Aston Villa - He would not get in ahead of Kamara or McGinn - and Jacob Murphy is a different style of player at LCM

Leeds - Bought Adams and Roca this summer - they don't want Winks

Everton - They looked at Winks, and ran away.

The harsh reality is that Winks is likely going to be a bench player wherever he goes - and that makes selling him on a new team difficult, and it makes getting a good price difficult.

No matter how good people think Winks is - he really is not a good fit for most teams. He does not offer assists/goals, and he does not offer much defensive work. He is good at recycling possession. Teams in the PL are not looking for a deep-lying playmaker with two engines playing ahead of him in CM.

Vinny Samways did well with a move to Spain.

I'll honestly be surprised if an EPL team comes in for WInks. For me, he's a Championship-level midfielder. Perhaps a relegation-fodder team will pick him up for his homegrown status and to make the tea.
