I personally though we looked infinitely better balanced with him in the middle yesterday even if he is unspectacular in what he does. I also think Højbjerg has his best game in a while a as a result.

Sissoko’s role yesterday was the same role he should always have against a team who aren’t as good a as us. Off the bench to stem the tide when we’re already in a commanding position.

Do I think Winks is the long term solution? No. But I do think he’s a version of the sort of player best suited to partner Højbjerg, and if Lo Celso isn’t ultimately trusted in the role then that’s the best signing (unless Winks gets there). Tenacity and fluidity.

Until then, play Winks with Højbjerg.

Yeah he’s looked good in his last few games. His supposed limitations are massively overblown by some on here.

Really don’t see the point in loaning him to Valencia, like others have said we are short of bodies in the middle. We need to be adding to what we already have in the engine room imo.
He's a victim of the spurs scapegoat syndrome.

I think he is a good player and like him very much. I think soem of the criticism of him is not just over blown but plain wrong. Pleased to have seen him take his chance in the last couple of games too and thought he kept the ball moving well.
I am not sure how Jose sees the future of his side with him included thoigh to be honest and with us getting Skippy back and perhaps on the look out for another 8 - does that mean we may look to move him on ?

Winks does the role he is asked to do by Mourinho. Thankfully some of the moaners are starting to see this in the last few games.

He was poor against Wolves. There were lots of situations where he lost possession, lost his man and by the time wolves were in our third he was 10 yards behind the ball.

He had a much more solid performance against Leeds, but Leeds were a lot less sharp with their forward passing the Wolves were.

Winks strikes me as mediocre pre-Jose Spurs player: plays lots of sideways stuff, never makes any incisive passes that create big chances, makes the odd key mistake in a dangerous situation. We all go home after the game saying “we were unlucky to lose 1-0, we had more of the ball than they did”.

Is he a “bad” player? no. Is he a top-4 player/key squad member? IMO, no.

I think Phillips is a very good footballer, and probably has more potential than Winks... as much as I like our lad Harry.

He has a man bun though and we already have Bale so any more of those will be as embarrassing as the tights arsenal players were wearing yesterday.

Skipps loan is going incredibly well, I think it’d be best to leave him there. We’d need to consider other options, I think.

The risk with bringing someone else in is that it potentially blocks Skipp's path to the 1st team. I'd like us to get a veteran, experienced CM/DM to come in for a season and half or better yet we secure a 6 month loan for one of the CM/DM's at PSG ( Gueye, Herrera and Paredes have apparently been made available for transfers).

Sami Khedira’s been mooted. I dont know if rather just bring Skipp back or try for a 6 month loan. I dont want to ruin a good thing or block Skipp’s path but I also dont think a 6 month loan with no semblence of future certainty would be acceptable for a player or a club. Tough spot and why I doubt we’ll bring in a DM. I wouldnt be shocked though if we go in for a CM to play up the pitch(depending on whether sissoko or winks go).

Winks had a good game against Leeds, not Liverpool or City. It doesn’t automatically make all his supporters right or all his detractors wrong.

I’m very vocal about my views on Winks and I was impressed for a change but let’s not act like Leeds didn’t make it easier for him to excel, and he didn’t do anything astronomical either.

The question is - does Sissoko actually "stem the tide when we're already in a commanding position"? His ball possession is so under par that when Sissoko comes on we cede a lot of the midfield control and invite the opposition on to us. I would much rather see Winks on the pitch rather than Sissoko to partner Hojbjerg, as it gives us more control to mount attacks rather than just improve our defence. But I appreciate it's all about finding the right balance - we don't want to make too many risks by attacking that leave us vulnerable in defence.

At 3-0 up I can live with Sissoko, he’s awkward for the opposition to deal with and different to what else we have.

At 1-0 up, not for me.
