He will be here til January when he tells DL that he’s open to a new deal. They negotiate a deal where “all things are agreed” and at the last minute Kane asks for changes to the deal. The window closes, he doesn’t sign a new deal, and leaves on a free. Kane can rightfully say that he fulfilled his contractual obligation to Spurs and tried to extend his stay but DL and the board decided not to negotiate his new terms. It’s a PR win for Kane and a loss for DL.

I really hope that none of this happens but wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

That definitely wouldn’t be a PR win for Kane.

Not sure why so many are reading this as a binary (he goes, or he signs a new contract) when Ange literally says that he has another year left in them. The clarity that's required is not just sold or sign. Just stay is also clarity on the coming season.

Yeah if Kane simply commits to this season and says he won't discuss next season I'm sure that will also work fine for Ange. It won't stop the speculation but we can at least focus on this season knowing he's here. Then expect him to be named captain which we can't do until we know he's staying.

I know Ange is still in his honeymoon period at the moment but I can't imagine there was anything he could have said to Kane to convince him to sign a new deal now - surely people weren't expecting him to go in there, charm him and come out with a signed contract in hand?

I'm sure he'll give his all for us should he stay here for one more season. But why sign a new deal when he's seen so many false dawns and time is running out for him? Yes I'm sure he'll want the PL record but it would be a travesty for a player as good as him never to win any trophies in his career.

I cannot bear the idea of him linking up with Pochettino at Chelsea - so if there is a suitable bid from Bayern, I would take it. We won't sign anyone even nearly as good as him but if we get a few quality young players in and invest across areas of the squad that still need desperate improvements, like centre-back, and blood through some quality young attackers over the next two seasons, we could stand to benefit net.

The problem with that is the nonstop speculation once the season starts about what club he's potentially going to.

Ange definitely wouldn't want that disrupting his first season.

Bang on.

If Kane were to come out put out a statement like:

"Tottenham is my club. However, as I approach the latter part of my career I need to be competing for the highest honours. With the club going through a rebuilding phase under a new manager, it's clear to me that it may take a bit of time to get the club back to where it belongs. Therefore, I have spoken to the chairman and would like to have the opportunity to discuss a move away that will give me the chance to compete for these trophies. If the right financial offer which the club deems acceptable arrives from a foreign club.

Until then, I will give my all to the club. Like I always have over the years, as it means so much to me."

Then I think everyone would be a lot more empathetic and open to the situation.

He doesn't need to do anything. All he has to do is give 100% on the pitch.

It reads like more noise on nothing new.

Exactly. Fucking hell, Ange might not even be here next summer, and he doesn't, as he keeps saying, seem to worry about future variables above what's on his plate right now, which is "is he going to be here at the end of the window".

Can’t believe there are people on here who genuinely believe he might sign a new deal.
I don't believe he will but it could happen I guess if there are a lack of "sure thing" options.

What I struggle with is the school of thought that he'll stay because he wants the PL record above all else or because he loves the club so much.

That works until there is the slightest specualtion from our wonderful fans that he didn't give 200% in one challenge. Then he is "protecting himself" and trying not to get injured.

Yep. Or the first media story that says Kane has his eyes set on Chelsea or Man U and Ange has to answer questions about it, or the second media story, or the third.

I honestly don't believe that will work fine for Ange, I think he is focused on building his team and his legacy and a one year maybe would be showing no commitment to that.

I don't think he'll necessarily sign a new deal, but I do know that we'll be able to offer him more in terms of a deal than other clubs come the end of next season as he's got a history here which we can burnish for him if he'd so desire, and if the club was minded could make him rich far beyond what anyone else can or will offer him.

I also know that I don't really care if he doesn't and walks on a free. The idea of trying to manage his career for him in a way that hurts fans feelings less is a bit of a folly, to be honest. If he wanted to do to his legacy what going to a Chelsea would do, then that's his decision to make for better or for worse, and it would be a shame, but it would also be the reality of his relationship with the club at the end of the day if it came to pass.

For me I want him to stay this season whatever the outcome because having him in the side is the best chance we have of kicking on. Simple as that. Nobody knows our situation in a year's time, football's situation, or the state of the world, so I'd rather us just do the best that we can do now, as we've been waiting for...quite a while.

The more I think about it, the more the move to Bayern makes perfect sense from everyone's perspective.

For Spurs, if he's not going to sign it's pretty much our last chance for a fee. "Coys, Daniel" is a businessman first and foremost and makes decisions as such. He doesn't make decisions that a fan would make unless his back is squarely to the wall (which is where he's headed with the window counting down)

For Bayern, they get to show their standing in the world of football, they get a bloody good striker that suits their manager and they get an asset that they can sell back to the Premier league next season or the season after and recoup their outlay.

For Harry, he gets guaranteed trophies, guaranteed European competition, pretty much guaranteed knock out stages in the Cl with an outside chance of winning it. He also gets to double his wages and use Bayern as a conduit to move back to Utd or City next season and protect his legacy with Tottenham.

I've no doubt he would have loved to break the record as a one club man but, as many have said before, we've wasted his generational talent by not pushing the boat out when the opportunity was there to do so and consequently winning shag all.

I'd let Richy go too. Love him, and I think he'd be good in Ange's system post Kane but don't think he's clinical enough and think with his profile as Brazil's no 9 and with Ancelotti at Madrid we have an opportunity to turn over our money and get two in (plus two good CB's and a RW) that would suit our new way of playing to a tee. Ange's recruitment for his system seems to be a strong suit so lets get this "painful rebuild" done as painlessly as we can.

No way this club can replace not only a legendary world class striker but also his prem proven Brazilian international backup in this window, no way.

if Kane does go i'm worried about how we replace his output.
Son or richy upfront isn't going to mask the 30 goals he scored last season. I'm aware a new manager and new system should yield more output from the team in general. but it would be nice to have someone up top who is going to score a few....

and so much of our play (previously) revolved around his hold-up play. Again, aware we will pivot tactics but there will be a goal scoring CF hole.
