People overrate the PL scoring record. What happens if he gets that? A few nice twitter posts congratulating him? Also, someone can take it away from him in the future.

Winning trophies comes with medals, team celebrations, bus tour in front of the fans, permanent record in the history books, probably a win bonus of some sort.

Players are always going to pick the later.
Are they? It comes with going down in history as tye top ever… people always introduce Shearer as it. It leaves your mark on history

I’m still absolutely baffled he is giving up the Prem scoring record for a Bundesliga
See, I understand the draw of Chamions League this season, really. But bagging that all-time Premier League Goal record and then leaving to have your pick of clubs next year does seem like the 'Having your cake AND eating it' scenario he *should* go for...

I always thought the best possible way to prepare for the first game of the season is to sell you best player just before it. We are finally acting like a professional outfit. In levy we trust.

Probably a statue outside the stadium which everyone will see for many generations.

...until someone else overtook him.
It'll take what, 15 years since he set it for Kane to overtake Shearer? And not like Shearer is gonna disappear from the record books.

Next up to take over from Kane could easily be in another decade or longer. Kane will still have when he was playing he broke the record.

When you think of Shearer, do you think of him as the PL all time top scorer or a premier league winner? I think the vast majority think the former.

Harry Kane is deliberating over whether or not it is too late to make the biggest decision of his career after Bayern Munich finally agreed a fee with Tottenham Hotspur to sign the England captain.

The breakthrough in negotiations came late on Wednesday evening with a fee in excess of £86 million accepted by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

The key to the deal appears to be Bayern having re-organised their offer so that Spurs receive a far greater amount of money up-front, with fewer add-ons and staggered payments, so they can invest in their squad immediately.

Bayern have been confident all summer that Kane wants to join them but the protracted nature of the negotiations, with three previous offers having been rejected by Spurs and with the Premier League campaign kicking off this weekend, has gradually called that into doubt.

Telegraph Sport revealed earlier this week that not only was Kane leaning towards staying at Spurs, and potentially seeing out the final year of his contract, but that he absolutely wanted his future decided before their first league game against Brentford on Sunday.

Tuchel would be stunned if Kane deal collapses
In theory Bayern will believe by reaching an agreement today they have done that but it remains a complex deal and might not be concluded quickly. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has made Kane his No 1 target and remains extremely confident that the 30-year-old will sign. He would be stunned if it does not happen.

There have been suggestions from sources in Germany that the only delay on the deal now will be because Kane has some financial details to sort out with Spurs. Personal terms offered to him by Bayern are believed to be acceptable.

Bayern will also argue that they attempted to force the issue by setting a deadline of midnight last Friday for their previous bid to be accepted by Levy. As expected it was ignored forcing Bayern to make yet another offer.

The accepted bid tops the €100 million minimum that Levy was demanding for Kane, and with add-ons is close to £100 million. Crucially, it also fulfils his demands on how the payments were made.

Kane would not contemplate leaving Spurs once their season has started and believes this would be unfair on the fans, the club, his team-mates and also head coach Ange Postecoglu who he admires and who he already has forged a good relationship with.

Harry Kane to Bayern onward journey
It would be a devastating blow to Bayern if Kane refuses to move now and it would make it highly unlikely that he would sign a pre-contract agreement with them in January, when he is free to do so with an overseas club.

If Kane stayed at Spurs and saw out the final year of his deal it would not only increase his options next summer when he will be a free agent but will mean he can not only sign a shorter-term contract or, indeed, could join another Premier League club.

Kane has shown no inclination towards signing a new contract at Spurs.

Levy has always made it clear that if Kane is sold his preference is for him to go overseas. Manchester United again considered making an offer for Kane but concluded it would be impossible to negotiate with Levy, as Manchester City discovered two years ago, and decided to sign Rasmus Hojlund instead.

Kane scored four goals in Spurs’ pre-season victory over Shakhtar Donetsk last Sunday with fans serenading him with chants of “we want you to stay”. It remains to be seen if he does but a move to Bayern is not definite as things stand although a final answer is imminent.

Kane does want to break Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals – he is currently 47 behind on 213 – but has still to win any trophies as a player. Given Bayern have won 11 Bundesliga titles in a row his chances of silverware are almost guaranteed in Germany while Tuchel has told him they can win the Champions League together.
That reads like it's come from Kanes camp. Imo

Can anyone show me an example where a big transfer has been agreed but “awaiting the players decision” is Kane in two minds?
Ironically, I'm sure clubs used to have to agree a figure before any player was allowed to talk to his potential new club. Anything else was considered to be "Tapping-Up".

I think PL scoring record is a tad bit over-rated as a talking point. (Note - this does not mean its not an outstanding accomplishment)

Kane is already England's career scoring record - which ensures he lives on in the lore of the game. Adding the PL scoring record won't make him more, or less, talked about in the future.

If he goes and wins a few trophies at Bayern, it won't be immediately followed up with "But he never won anything!"

But, where I think Kane is getting it wrong - if he goes - the new narrative will be: "But he never won anything in England". With Kane it will always be something. And, even if he went to City - it would be "He left for guaranteed trophies"

For reasons I can't quite understand, people are happy to dismiss Kane's accomplishments no matter what he does. SO, he is better off just following his heart, and doing what he wants to do - critics/pundits/supporters be damned.

That's the issue of deadlines being set and not fucking adhered to.

Levy could have earned us and himself a bigger respect by sending Bayern a fuck-off note before flying to Miami, not still having an agreement almost after a week later.

Doesn't really say anything new, though, unless I'm misreading it? Just a rehash of all the stuff we have been discussing here for days. The most interesting thing is about Tuchel being "stunned" if the deal falls through, given how the deal is apparently on a knife-edge. I mean why would he be stunned if last night Bayern still hadn't had an offer accepted?

There’s a large, very petty, part of me that just wants him to stay because the German media will implode.
