Same here. But I am VERY biased, so I can't work out whether I'm right - can someone tell me?

Initially I said, "shit RED!" Then I thought but BAE was right there. But that was an excuse, Gomes had to go, as harsh as it sounds.

But a Prem ref might've just yellow carded him

Not deliberate, but he missed the ball and took the man out. BAE was just behind the attacker. So yeah, deserved. Not deliberate, but clumsy.

Ekotto was the culprit in that keystone kops defending. Gomes had to go as he took the legs away from the attacker but there was always going to be a collision of sorts.

Unfortunate but the red wasn't harsh. The circumstances it arrived might have been but, last man...

I'd have been fuming if we'd been attacking their GK had stayed on after that.

Gomes was rash, and I agree - he had to go. Shoe on the other foot I'd want the keeper sent off for that, so can't expect any different for us.

Thought the ref was close to spoiling the game first half though for various other things, mostly being whistle-happy, that fucks me off.

It was as stonewall a red as you're ever likely to see, short of whipping out a machete and lopping one of Eto's feet off there's not much more he could have done to warrant one.

If he'd stayed on his feet for maybe a second more. Still, his bluff was called in the one-one. Like mentioned, it was probably a yellow + pk in the Premiership, but it was the champion's league.

Carlo is a great keeper, but he shows his best when he's had 2 or 3 games on the trot, and not when he's thrown into a match or the first 11, making him a very shady second choice IMO.

I don't think CC could have done anything about any of the goals and pulled off a few good saves.

It was the defence and the midfield standing off the Inter players letting them play that caused the problems in the first place.

Please someone clarify how many games Gomes will miss. Please tell me its not all three for being a straight red!

At first I thought that it was unbelievably harsh as the ref has to factor in intent and that would be hard, if not impossible, to suggest. As has been said, if he'd stayed up and taken the collision, then I think he would have stayed on, nit even booked and may well have saved the goal as well. I go with what seems to be the consensus - clumsy and (just about) deserved.

Yes, we've seen more than one yellow card along with penalty given in similar circumstances, and not just in EPL. Assou-Ekotto was in position to interfere even if the forward went past Gomes.

I wish we could appeal the red card, but not sure the club will do it. Is there an extra game ban for "frivolous appeal" in UEFA competitions? Although there would be nothing frivolous in that appeal, just a legitimate request to reconsider the decision in the light of the day after.

On a side note, I really do think they should change the rules regarding goalkeepers and red cards-its awfully harsh to give teams the DOUBLE punishment of a penalty against them and sending the keeper off-think it should always be a yellow unless the offence comes under violent conduct.
