That kind of stuff can also be galvanizing though, to be honest.

#6, the lad making his debut, has impressed. Calm and tidy on the ball and has but in a few food challenges.

Man just went 5 at the back. Against Haiti. I’m appalled
It's not been terrible. They never looked like scoring and have worked hard defensively. You hit the post and the bar, and have had the better chances. The team looks like it needs time together to gel. And again that #6 has been really good since he came on. Seen nothing from Dike to suggest he should get a move to Europe.

Seriously. Wtf is that all about. Obviously money changed hands. What an unbelievable joke.
TBF its not unprecedented. They had South Korea as a guest in 2000 before they hosted the world cup. They've had other guest nations, too.

Well if Man Utd are at the US game tonight to scout Daryl Dike, then they must be happy.

Damn. Today's two matches of Canada and then USA were so good. No simulations, no time wasting. Just football. So relieving after EURO's and Copa America.
Also it's amazing how both winning and losing teams continue attacking regardless of the score. For example USA were desperately attacking when the score was 5-1. Made 6-1 at the end. Great sportsmanship! (y)
P.S. Daryl Dike is a good player!

I’m sorry but you can’t compare the Gold Cup to the Euros or the Copa America!! The US were playing a very small Caribbean Island - it’s like England smashing 6 past Guernsey!

agree with both. not ready for the prem yet though.

but aren't they the sort of players we should be going for ? Risky but loads of potential not sure how much they might cost and if they would get work permits (presumably Dike would as he played at Barnsley) - you could always send them out on loan for a bit - watched Buchanan twice in this tournament and he has great energy gets up and down looks like he can beat a man both inside cutting in on to his right foot and outside on the right - and he seemed to knock some useful balls into the box -

Im sure some of our American friends might have seen a lot more of him

Dike saw him play for Barnsley and he looked alright but didn't know he was so young until reading on here loads of potential there as well from what I have seen I like the way he attacks the ball and gets his big lump on the end of things in the box

Buchanan is a good young player, but I agree that he’s probably not ready for the Prem. He’s having a great tournament, but I’ve also seen him a fair amount for the Revs. He’s good going forward but I don’t think he is clinical enough to be a winger. I also don’t think he is defensively stout enough to be a fullback or even a wingback at the top level (see Moore ghosting by him for the US goal). I think he’ll get his move abroad to a smaller league in europe, but i have a hard time seeing him make it all the way to the top.

Despite his performance yesterday, I think Dike is the real deal. I honestly wouldn’t put much stock into how he plays in Berhalter’s wonky systems. Maybe I’m just a homer since Orlando City is my team, but his ceiling is through the roof. He’s only been a professional for a year, but he’s thrived every single step he’s taken. He’s looked good for in the MLS and he was obliterating the Championship at the tail end of last season. Physically he’s got all the tools to be a terror in any league. But he isn’t just a battering ram like he was at Barnsley. His technique is pretty good and he’s intelligent. He’s obviously still really raw, but you can just see he’s got it. Passes the eye test for sure.

Thus Gianluca Busio looks good as well. Only 19 but very composed.
Busio is going to be a really good player. His understanding of the game, even back when he was 16 or so, is really good. The US doesn’t produce a lot of players like him, so I hope his move to Venezia works out. I have a feeling they’re headed straight back to Serie B (especially if their midfield is two American teenagers ...), but I think Busio will take to Italian league.

really interesting - got to say I have been quite taken by the little Ive seen of Buchannan but Ive only seen glimpses

Dike when was at Barnsley I assumed he was a journeyman centre forward who had arrived over at the tail end of the season and hit a purple patch so took little notice. Watching him again through tired eyes, I think your right he could be a player. As I say I like that he wants to get into the box shows outside the box as well and he is a bit of baby beast I like the look of him. Look forward to watching a bit more of both of them as the tournament continues
