Did you ever see many performances of his for Spurs - and then ask why most fans thought other players might be better suited or why the 'leaked' meeting with Redknapp and Dos Santos parents happened about his Giovani's late nights etc

Well if I trained all week and still didn't get a look in, was young and quite well off, single and living in a foreign country, I suspect I would also be tempted to go out and get pissed. That used to be de rigour for most footballers, but these days going out and getting drunk is frowned on.

Footballers are human too.

The young Mexican was on target twice as Tottenham beat local Spanish side UD Tavernes in an 8–0 thumping on their 2008–09 pre-season tour. Giovani also played in Tottenham's other pre-season games such as the 5–1 wins over Leyton Orient and Norwich City. He also scored the second goal in the 3–0 win over Borussia Dortmund to help Spurs to make it two wins out of two and take home the Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament trophy. Giovani scored his first competitive goal for Spurs in the UEFA Cup on 26 February 2009 against Shakhtar Donetsk.[15] After 12 first team appearances, he was sent on loan to Ipswich Town for the remainder of the season.[6]

What makes me laugh is when Redknapp criticises Adel Tarrabt for being overweight. Have you looked at yourself in the mirror recently Harry?

I call bullshit. Offers from the 2007 City? Who then became billionaires a couple of years later. How convenient.

So do managers need to run ? Could they go about their duties in a wheelchair - quite possibly yes. Could a PL player - definitely no

Spot the difference between a player and a manager or a player prepared to do everything tio get in the side, and someone turning up for training but not much more. Postcards please

Gazza was often overweight but rarely got dropped. I think he liked a drink as well, still does by all accounts. I don't think you can say GDS was over weight? Players should be judged by what they do on the pitch, not off it.

That's why we spent 3 years trying to find a buyer for the teat.

Gascoigne was named on the PFA Team of the Year in the 1990–91 season as Tottenham reached the FA Cup Final, with victories over Blackpool, Oxford United, Portsmouth, Notts County and North London derby rivals Arsenal. He scored the opening goal of the 3–1 victory over Arsenal at Wembley with a free-kick, one of six goals he scored in the competition. Going into the final against Nottingham Forest he had already agreed terms to join Italian club Lazio in an £8.5 million deal.[33]However just 15 minutes into the game he committed a dangerous knee-high foul on Gary Charles and ruptured his own cruciate ligaments in his right knee. England team mate Stuart Pearce scored from the resultant free kick, and Gascoigne subsequently collapsed after the kick-off, forcing him to leave the match on a stretcher.[34]Tottenham went on to win the Cup in extra-time.

He missed the entire 1991–92 season while he recovered, suffering a further knee injury in late 1991, when an incident[clarification needed] at a nightclub on Tynesidekept him out for even longer.[35] The saga over Gascoigne's proposed transfer to Lazio dominated the tabloid press throughout 1991, often overshadowing the key national news of that time – namely the recession and rise in unemployment that it sparked – although the broadsheet newspapers generally kept stories about Gascoigne confined to their back pages.[36]

Ah, the 2008-09 pre-season! I remember it well! The humbling of the mighty Tavernes! The trouncing of the Orient! The Feyenoord Jubileum! Bentinho scoring for fun! Happy days!

What a shame the real world had to intrude so cruelly.

Probably the most enthusiastic I have ever been during a preseason. I was riding a wave of hugely inflated, blissfully ignorant optimism whilst gleefully counting down the days until the season kicked off in earnest.

That went well.
