There’s a issue that if you sweep up too much young talent all that happens is it will stifle everyone’s development because you can’t give everyone the chances they need.
Agree but most seem to think that the competition makes better players, despite that fact our own players are already competing with the best players in England. They've been competing their whole life. Signing a good player in a position we already have a quality just means we have the opportunity to waste 2 quality players not one. My England head also thinks leave the good players at EFL clubs where they are so they can come through.
If we can't bring through one of the most talented attacking talents England have produced or one of their best CMs I don't see what luck we have any bringing through lesser players.
@IGSpur @Blake Griffin @edson @spurs9 and others I forget...
Who are the top half dozen or so talents from England U16-U21 who are not at elite clubs (so basically those we could realistically agree a deal for) ?
Who are the top two? Sessegnon and another? Or, are there better talents just not yet in view?
Seems like we'd be mad not to ride this talent wave the country seems in the midst of.
Like BG I like Ben Knight. We don't have a lot of top wingers, so he would help us there and he is very industrious, so would be a nice signing but as above, part of me thinks he wouldn't come through here so he might as well stay where he is. Ipswich have given chances to Bishop, Dozzell, Nydam and another in England squads. He would get his chance there then he can move on.
I actually think we should poach Chelsea talents who aren't on pros. Some would be ready for our first team in a year or so max, and we can show how Chelsea bring zero young players through, and ride off the fact we have Kane, Winks, Rose and have brought through, Bentaleb, Caulker, Townsend, Mason and Carroll in recent years.
Other players that could be targeted, are Poveda/Richards not getting much game time at City. Carvalho at Fulham. Loader at Reading. These guys all fill position where we don't have much strenght.
Knight, Carvalho, Jude Bellingham from Birmingham for future in attack. Also at clubs we could poach from. Richards try and bring him back to London and in a year he'd be a good option and Loader as a back up striker in a year would be good. Thing is though, we wouldn't play any of them realistically until they've played first team matches.
So in that sense I'd only look at Sessegnon. Gibbs-White looks promising but not completely sold on "what he does" does he does do it well. Feel there are more but can't think of em at the moment
