Ive always defended football for the crazy amounts of money spent and earned. But 300m in a single transfer window is a little sickening. When you consider the amount of people struggling to make ends meet in this country.

Absolutely bonkers to think that the transfer window hasn't even open and man city has spent like..... $170mil? Last season that's about what their spend for the whole window. And they already matched it before the window has began.

It's gonna be a really crazy transfer window.

To be fair to Guardiola, he's not buying experienced or established world class galiticos like Di Maria or Pogba here for world record fees, these players (so far) would have cost a lot less a couple of years ago, it's only crazy prem money that allows the clubs he's buying from to charge so much. It's the same crazy world in which we paid 30m for Sissoko.

I don't know anything about this player but goalkeepers have been undervalued for too long.

If he doesn't win the league or champions league there next season he should be sacked. Then the next guy won't have his players and they'll have to replace them all again.

Seems they are targeting players in the 21/22/23 years old age range though doesn't it.

Are they?

I dont think think they are, part of the problem is that the top goalkeepers dont change clubs

There is such a monopoly on goalkeepers that rarely move and the good ones that do move are often second choice and want to leave the club to be first choice like Bravo and Cech or its young keepers. Or its young goalkeepers that have potential to be great like De Gea, Courtouis and etc.

De Gea was one of the best young keepers 5 years ago and he cost £18m, £45m for Ederson is about the same

De Gea is also apparently going to cost £66m to Real Madrid, that wouldn't suggest he is too undervalued.

I think, its worth noting that is very rare for a proven top goalkeeper to change clubs.

Good points but I'm just surprised that Buffon's transfer fee is still a record given how much the overall market has changed since 2001.

If De Gea is worth £66m, how much is Oblak or Neuer worth? Or someone below that top tier like Handanovic?

Lloris for £12m is still a remarkable transfer fee, to your point, we got him at the right time.

Fullbacks and CBs are probably the most undervalued especially when looking at supply and demand. Every team seems to need them and there's so few proven good ones around.

Fullbacks especially now are much more crucial to the way a side operates tactically than when the market first set itself and the market still seemingly hasn't caught up.

We genuinely should be charging way over the reported 40 million for Walker.

Goalkeepers are a little different as you only really notice them if they're poor and since a squad only really needs one with minimal rotation (bar injuries) and they have the most longevity they don't need to be valued that highly as there's never really much of a market for them.

The funny thing is, it's these people struggling to make ends meet who are paying Sky & BT each month to help support it.

Why do i have a feeling in my kidneys that a lot of teams in the PL are going to switch to 3 at the back because its trendy or they think it's a magic bullet? :bag:

It's working well for Chelsea and us. Arsenal have been in great form since switching too.

Hirving Lozano is signing for Celta Vigo, he's been mentioned in the now locked Spurs scouting thread a few times

So bored with managers like Guardiola and Mourinho. Having to spend 200 millions a year in transfer fees alone (i dread to think about agent fees) just to be in the mix. Such frauds

Definitely worth keeping an eye on. Been described as the Mexican Alexis Sanchez.

Nonsense. Put it this way, if you own a business and have worked hard for years to turn it into the best business going are you going to staff it with people from the job centre?

These managers have earned the right to have the backing of their owners and are using it to buy the best players they can. I really can't see an issue but I'm not football hipster.

If he is sold the I expect a record fee for a fullback. Although Walker having that title would be weird.

To be fair, Jose, not so much Pep, has earned his position.

You have to admit, that winning the Champions League with Porto and then Inter were fantastic achievements, no matter how much you might dislike him. He got the Porto job based on a great run with an average Portuguese team too. He's no fraud, far from it.

Pep? Last season was the first time he was involved in a competitive league and he had a bit of a shocker. Until that point he has nearly always had it all his own way. Next season could see his reputation being massively tarnished. Throwing all this money about. In reality that City squad should have won the league this season, then you have them losing in the FA Cup against a fairly average goon side and then choking against Monaco? He's got it all to do.
