Is that the reason Roma got rid of him or was that something else?

Yeah, the Italian lifestyle isn't ideal for some people I guess. :hungover:
Roma got Santon, Zaniolo + a truckload of cash in return so I'm sure they were happy with the deal either way, but his attitude and lifestyle has always been an issue. It was why Martinez didn't take him to the World Cup.

MONEY LAUNDERING

In regards to this, there is something really fishy going in with Cucurella and Barcelona.

Last season he was loaned to Eibar with an option to buy, including a buyback for Barcelona. Eibar then signed Cucurella, Barcelona resigned him and now sent him out on loan to Getafe... with an option to buy. Like wtf.

Both Barca and Real do a lot of these types of moves.

Selling a young prospectively good player on the cheap but also with a cheap buyback clause and typically they'll re-activate it a year or two later and then sell them on again either that year or in another year's time for even more money.

This one does seem particularly odd as it's a loan with a purchase option. I guess it makes sense if that purchase option is either large and/or has yet another buyback option built into it.

I'm not sure if there's anything shady behind it other than it being essentially a loan type system with more incentive for the buying team as it could potentially be permanent. Even though it's not really as another club can easily go to Barcelona/Real with an offer for the player and so long as it's worth more than what the buyback clause is they'll typically buy the player back just to sell them on again. Which is essentially what often appears to happen.

Essentially they "sell" the player to have them increase their value elsewhere rather than loan them. It's quite clever really as it often incentivises other clubs to pursue the transfer (as it's often cheap) and play the player (as they now own him) so often the player's value does increase substantially. I'd say it's a much better system for player development and club earning than the one Chelsea employ for example.

A similar system happens all across Italy that they call dual-ownership. Not sure if it's still technically allowed with the new contract laws in place, but so far it still seems like they've still got the system (or at least a similar one) in place. Although it's used more for development rather than money earning.

Loaning a player with a clause for 3m and then buy him back for 6m right away (or whatever) is just weird and fucking fishy. Don't know why the player takes part in it either.

Well the reason the players take part is because they're all talented youngsters and they all like the allure of possibly playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid. There's very little difference in the way the system is used compared to loans for example. Except as I illustrated that it adds more incentive for the buying clubs - so often teams like Lyon could be interested (which they have in the past) who normally wouldn't be. Rather than essentially clubs divisions down or those who are strapped for cash being interested because typically that's who is interested in loan deals.

If anything the top clubs in the world should start doing similarly as it tends to benefit the club and the player.

Nabil Fekir, is going to Real Betis for €20m

Personally I think we should be all over this, perfect to back up kane and AM position imo

Well you see I've devised a theory that the two chairman masterminds Levy & Aulas have rekindled their bond and devised a plan to sell Fekir to Betis so we can buy Lo Celso for cheaper (with us chipping in a few quid to supplement the sale as a bonus on Ndombele). Truly a dynamic duo.

There's a reason it's Betis for that price though.
I thought that is due to his injury record, dont get me wrong, as a starter he hasn't got a career at a high level until he can prove his fitness but perfect for a bench role imo

Well, the scouts of all major clubs seem to disagree. Maybe down to wage demands.

For that price, and given the hype of the last few years I can only imagine Fekir’s knee is an absolute timebomb.
