Liverpool engaging in the futile exercise of rejecting bids that are clearly way more than fair. They are delaying the inevitable to appease the fans and make it seem like they wont be held hostage. Its just playing games. He'll be gone soon

Agree with the first bit. It's not like they're derisory bids or anything, even in this current market that's mental. Just trying to make a stand against a club much bigger than it, yet they piss their pants when Saints and RB Leipzig dare to do the same. ****s.

£118m for Coutinho is the single most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in football. He's a very good player, but he's overrated, and a complete joke if we're talking the most expensive player ever.

Liverpool would be nuts to turn down that money.

look, obviously they are a rival but 100% fair play to them for being firm in their stance. PC just signed a new contract and there is no way to replace him now....once the window closes what's he going to do play in the CL or sulk in a world cup year?
Along with Red Bull and Saints decision 100% agree this is good for the game. What will be inevitable is more and more release clauses, which is fine because those will be part of negotiations on wages etc.

Maybe Pool think there's a good chance Barcelona will offer even more. The way things have gone with prices, you couldn't rule it out.

Fair fucks to Liverpool for holding out for more money because Barca will be back again, they're desperate and they need to bring in new faces to Liverpool know that all they're going to do is up the bid.

Don't see why they're getting criticised for, if we were doing that we'd be getting praised to high heaven.

Obviously I don't go much on Liverpool, they are generally a very cringeworthy club but fair fucks to them on this one.

Coutinho is a quality player and he, along with Lallana to a lesser degree, makes them tick. What he's worth isn't really the issue here, it's what he's worth to Liverpool and they obviously see him as virtually irreplaceable. £118m is a ridiculous amount for him but who are they going to buy who would actually improve their side overall? It's easy to say they could buy a keeper and a defender etc for that sort of dough but would that leave them as a better side overall?

I also like seeing people telling the super clubs to fuck off. Also, Barca have cash on the hip right now so what's to say they won't keep coming back until it gets really silly?

SKY SOURCES: PHILIPPE COUTNIHO HAS LOCKED HIMSELF IN BATHROOM AT MELWOOD. NOT COMING OUT UNTIL BID ACCEPTED.

As somebody pointed out elsewhere, what makes Liverpool and Klopp work isn't particularly a great number 10, it's their counter press and their ability to hit teams quickly once they obtain possession. Don't get me wrong, Coutinho has been an important player for them, especially as he provides lots of crucial goals, but he's not imperative to their system. They could easily bring in another Lallana type to share the burden and ensure that their press doesn't burn out over the course of the season and I think they wouldn't miss him as much as they think. They should accept that fee because not only could they find a decent replacement - Lanzini would be good - to score 10-12 goals a season, they could really sort that defence out, and they ain't winning shit until they do that!

Wow. Lollerpool fans are really laying into Jenas after his Coutinho comments. Doing their typical "who de fuck rr you to talk bout r mightey club".

All he said was that holding on to Coutinho is damaging the club. Pretty fair comment and came across as sincere. Weirdos.

You expect them to be anything less? They're the most delusional fan base in sports.

I got the feeling there was a touch of 'returning the favour' about it, as it's the kind of comment Liverpool pundits make about us all the time...

Even now, there's a couple arguing Liverpool should buy Dele or Eriksen as replacements! Delusional fools.

I agree with your point to a degree, although Coutinho is a massive level above Lanzini, but that also works for their defensive issues too. Their problems at the back aren't about the quality of defender they have, it's how they set up defensively. I'd argue that Poch would have the same set of players conceding fewer goals in next to no time if he were in charge there, on the flip side if Klopp was our gaffer, we'd concede more goals than we currently do.

I don't think them simply buying a few higher quality defenders would solve their defensive issues. Klopp is the problem there
