As a player for right now? Totally. Bale is one of the best players in the world and despite being hated by the RM fans and Zidane, he scored a number of crucial goals for them. Lo Ceslo is younger though and would be potentially playing for longer. So really it is a choice between now or investing in the future.

This will probably sound ridiculous, not due to the idea of the transfer itself, but I don't know how we would fit Bale into the current squad and still sign Lo Celso?

Let's assume we have a 4 man back line...

If we say there's currently Sissoko, Ndombele, Winks, Wanyama, Dier and the lines of Skipp competing for deeper CM positions, and then we have Kane up front, with currently Lamela, Son, Moura, Dele and Eriksen (ignoring academy lads) competing for 2-3 spots behind Kane (and somewhat covering him with respect to Moura/Son), then I can see how GLC is part of the depth (7 players for 3-4 attacking spots).

What I don't understand is where Bale (who differs to Lamela/Son/Moura/Lo Celso in such that he would surely need to be first choice) would fit in to all that without pushing a player to the exit.

If you ask me, Kane will want to play every game in the calendar, Eriksen is generally the same, Dele is very rarely benched/dropped, then that would mean Bale would play - leaving 2 spots for one of Son/Lamela/Moura/GLC/Sissoko/Winks/Ndombele/Dier/Wanyama/Skipp/etc.

I just can't get my head around that aspect - I'm sure there's far worse problems to have in a team than "where would Bale fit in", but I can see us struggling if we did go for Bale and GLC. Unless of course Ossie starts giving Poch advice on formations.

Would u guys take Bale at the expense of Lo Celso?

Yes. Let me just clarify with some honesty. I don't proclaim to be any sort of expert on Lo Celso, I trust the posters on here who know more, and I respect, and appreciate, their views.

But what I do know, is that Bale is a proven top tier talent who has been a game changer for many years at the very highest level. It was just over a year ago that he showcased this by winning Madrid the Champions League.

Yes, there is a lot of sentimentality in hoping we would see Bale, one of the finest players I've seen in a Spurs shirt, back home. But there is also the simple fact that, a fully firing Bale, will take us to another level and could well prove to be the final piece in getting us that elusive league title that we all dream about.

This one signing would make the world sit up and say, "Holy fuck! Spurs are serious contenders". I've been a big fan of Levy and the way he runs the club, so if the financials just can't be done, I'll accept it..... BUT.....this is no ordinary transfer.....it's one in a blue moon that we should be moving heaven and earth for because when our young squad sit in that changing room before a game, look up, and see a MULTI Champions league winning superstar next to them, the whole mentality shifts to believing we are about to win big things.

Make it happen you lovely bald fecker

I’d assume Wanyama, Lamela and Dier could all be moved on. Skipp could go on loan. Better to have more than less quality. As we saw last season, injuries to Kane and Dele in February with Son away - we were down to the bare bones!

You've just summed up why I'm really not fussed about Bale. As I've said before, I'd rather move on than go back and I think signing Bale would have all sorts of problems attached. Of course, many will point out that he's a world class player, and you can't argue with that but taking the whole situation into account, I won't be the least bit bothered if we don't get him.

Could we rely on Bale to be fit any more than Kane/Dele/Son/Moura etc. though?

As you mention, we'd have to move some on. Problem is that (imo) Lamela and Moura are both, as seen today, valuable to have when fit and firing, yet not consistent (or some other appropriate description) enough for us to not need a Bale/GLC.

I feel that if Poch was serious about not being sentimental (at risk of taking his words out of context), then we'd need to move on players like Dier/Wanyama/Lamela who aren't good/reliable enough to be starting in our best side. Can't see it happening, though.

Want to move there do ya Eriksen?

Horrible detestible club on par with Chelsea.

Yep it seems you need to be an egotistical twat to get on there.

Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from the manager. Bale would be a club legend were he anywhere else. They seem to have an extremely short memory of last years CL final!

Wherever he ends up I hope he tears RM a new @rsehole on the pitch and puts them out of a major tournament.

Interesting comments from Poch, amazed he didn’t just shoot it down. I would love bale to come back but I just can’t fathom how it would ever be a viable deal for us to do!

The only way I could see it happening if it was heavily subsidised by RM and potentially a sponsor - there must be a commercial angle that Levy could exploit to make it a money spinning move - GB is still big box office.

I’ve been away in London all weekend (went to the new stadium for the first time yesterday, blown away) so I’m a bit out of the loop.

Has there been anything from ITKs suggesting Bale could be coming back?
