Yet they kept paying Robben (34) and Ribery (35) top wages each year despite being well over this so called “age policy”
Fair point but they were both bought like 10 years ago and weren't on anything close to 600k.

The only remotely comparable older player Bayern have bought in recent years was Vidal and he was 28 and still had re-sale value.

As Andrew says this situation at Madrid could get very messy now. If there is a tug of war between ZZ and Perez it will turn political and nasty.

I'd be stunned if Bayern went for Bale. In the past 3 seasons they haven't signed a player older than 23 so going for a 30 year old with injury issues on mega wages would be very unlike them. If they're going to push the boat out for an expensive wide player it will almost certainly be Sane, who is younger, German and just seems destined to end up there sooner or later.

A loan deal similar to one for the James Rodriguez would make sense - although Bales agent did say that he wouldn't leave on loan.

Can you see Man City letting anyone go who they want to keep? They've got so much money it seems unlikely that they'll release a player that they want to keep.

Part of me would fucking love it if Bale outstayed Zidane, and got back in to their first team under a new manager.

Yeah I think it's unlikely that Sane will leave this summer, but there have been rumblings of unrest between him and Guardiola for a while. He got benched for long stretches of last season and wasn't too pleased about it.

I think it's more likely Bayern will play the long game and go in hard for him next summer.

He was rotated quite a bit, but he still played in 47 games last season so it's obviously not a major falling out. Next season would make more sense.

Bayern seem to be well placed to get Bale. They have a good relationship with Real and their transfer window closes later than the windows in China and England so they could benefit if he still hasn't found a move in the next two weeks.

That's true but 19 were off the bench and he only started 21 of their league games. Still a very important part of the squad but it must be frustrating to be one of the best young players in the world and not be a guaranteed starter when he'd be first on the team sheet for 99% of clubs (including Bayern).

I admit I could be completely wrong and maybe he's happy and will sign a new contract, but I have a feeling that he will get fed up and push for a move, especially now that he's won everything there is to win in England.

If Real do allow Bale to go on loan then I agree that Bayern makes a lot of sense, but given the figures involved I still struggle to see it happening.

if Bale was 4/5 years older you would say go to China and take them to the cleaners. But at 30 I still think he has 3 or 4 good years left at a big club. Personally I think he will go Bayern to replace Robben. I just don't see how he will take a 400k wage cut to come Spurs....then again will Bayern offer more than 250k a week? Real Madrid and Zidane have played this one terribly.

Why does he have to take a pay cut? It's not him desperate to leave - Madrid are literally pushing him out so he holds all the cards. No one in Europe will pay him what he is on, Madrid will have to subsidise it or pay him off if they want rid. That is why I believe there is a chance it could happen at Spurs although I think we'd have more chance if our window closed at the same time as the rest of Europe.

This is playing out exactly how our ITKs predicted it would back in May.

For my money the whole ‘1 million Euro per week in China’ offer is just a PR stunt by Barnett so he can say - wherever Bale does eventually end up - that his client rejected 1 million per week because money isn’t a motivator for him and he just wants to be happy, appreciated, play football etc.

It’s a decent move tbh and now that Zidane has said what he’s said I’m not surprised at all that Florentino is pissed off. It’s put Madrid in a terrible position of negotiation.

Now the whole world knows that staying as a member of the Real Madrid squad under Zidane is simply not an option, and Madrid are going to have to cough up - whether that’s by paying off his contract, subsidising his wages or by keeping him and not playing him.

Has last day of the window written all over it. Doubt it’ll be us but it’ll be fun to watch it play out from here.

How to make an untenable situation worse: Sack Zidane. Perez will move Bale along. He’s got no other choice
