They weren't expecting Real to blow them out of the water?

Lol, good one Cath.

United were willing to pay more. Bale wanted Madrid simple as that.

Don't dis Cath she's a top bird. NO ONE rejects United so it suits the narrative that he wasn't ready to join them.

I don't think Jose really believes he's available think he's just trying to please the united fans by saying this shit. Hope so anyway.

The fact that people are even entertaining the idea that we would sign Bale is just ridiculous. It will never happen unless it's a 32 year old Bale a few years from now.

Got a feeling about this.

I wish I didn't, I know it's daft...

... But there's a niggle that there just might, MIGHT be something to this.

Lol some posts in this thread re sponsors.

Messi Adidas - Barca Nike
Ronaldo Nike - Real Adidas
Yes that is the case but the brands have been willing to subsidise costs of players. Those two players signed before huge huge boot deals. Nowadays it's very different look at the Pogba deal and the Bale deal.

I'm sticking by this, I personally believe that if we wanted to do a deal for Bale then we could do it. We could pay the fee (reportedly £86m) and whilst his wages would be high, I would imagine we'd work something out around bonuses etc to get it where he wants it. It may also mean that he'd be the only player we could sign this summer if we did do it but he'd be worth it IMO.

The only issue I can see, that we can't control as a club, would be whether he would be happy at this stage of his career, to come back to Spurs. Naturally we would establish quite quickly if he's interested before we even tried to do it, if he wasn't then we forsake our first refusal option and off he goes to Utd. If he is interested then we have the opportunity to put a deal together with no interference from any other club - not often that you get that luxury.

Please just stop. Kane, Lloris, Alds and Alli are vitally important to Poch and Levy won't even break the wage structure for them. Not a chance we would be getting this Italian JJ keeps referring to, a GK (ITK), a RB (ITK), Barkley (ITK) AND Bale (ITK says not happening). So please, do your hearts a favor and stop because it's not happening.

It was breezer and another ITK maybe hertyid or ali z said this could happen next year and breezer later repeated this. This will not happen however if Bale became available i am sure numbers would be looked at. I aren't remotely excited about it as i know the unhappiness afterwards is not worth it

I thought i saw breezer saying this wouldnt happen?

I hear ya. I know it's a long shot but consider this, why bother putting a first refusal option into the deal when we sold him if we didn't think that we could ever be in a position to compete to re-sign him?

We're struggling to complete a deal for Ross Barkley, we're not signing Bale.

Who said we're struggling? That's not my understanding of it at all, quite the opposite in fact. We know EXACTLY what we're doing on that front.

Levy might be a piece of work but he's not going to overpay for a player that has 1 year left on his contract and whose current club have stated that he will be sold. They have no leverage whatsoever. So we sit, we wait and we get the best possible deal. It's good business. It may not be the best for the squad for starting the season but he's injured anyway.

Real Madrid want to sign M'bappe, but wont do so without selling, Barca now have a shit tonne of money burning a hole in their pockets and the thought of them going to monaco with the money is worrying top the Real board.

real have recouped £50m from chelsea and £25m from city.

Real were open to offers last year for Isco but hes moved ahead of Bale in Zidane's plans after a great season so Bale is surplus and available but i think that Real will want too much for him

Well first of all, I believe that first refusal option has lapsed.

Secondly, I think Levy just likes to cover all angles and make things as difficult for other chairman/clubs as he can. Leave himself holding some cards etc.

I think regarding your previous post you have it the wrong way round. If, in some hypothetical parallel universe we we were willing and able to do a deal for Bale I think we could convince him no problem. We are in the CL and have been title challengers for the last 2 seasons.

Problem is we were are most likely not able ( and absolutely nailed on certainly not willing) to do what is necessary to make it happen.

We do not shop at Harrods or Selfridges. We don't even shop at John Lewis or M & S.

Rightly or wrongly we are more at home rooting through the bargain basement bin.
