I applaud you for attempting to use inflation....but I'm a buyer at 1% a year! I would say the paid more like 90million in today's money.

FX is around the same as in Aug 2009, but even a 1 cent diff makes a big difference when dealing in such sums. So could be a couple more million to Real.

And add in the global interest that our league continues to build.

100m. On the money!
(y)

I just ran the number in an online inflation calculator without checking it to carefully. Thanks for the correction, the higher number does not weaken my argument.

If you hold them off DL you are a complete fucking Legend.... If it comes off I'm getting

Levy
1
Perez
0

On my shirt.... With the money I've made from the bettings.

Good shout. I'd get one with Levy and a percent sign if they'll do it.

The man needs a song, also.

The start of Madrid's come down regarding Bale saga? Can see them going for Suarez
If they do switch their attention to Suarez, you can bet your bollocks that move will go through quicker than any in history. Liverpool must know at this point that they have no chance of keeping him, so any opportunity to fuck him out to a foreign club will be gleefully accepted. Suarez going to Madrid would be the best bit of business for the window for us - screwing over Arsenal's best/only chance of signing a world class player and guaranteeing that we keep Bale for a further year in one go.

penny might have finally dropped for them

1. You dont actually need or have room for him or can afford him this season

2. And Duh why not just get him next summer when he only has 2 years left on his contract and we may just have to accept cheaper bid.

Just because Barca got Neymar they feel they needed a 'Name' too. Spoilt children

Perfect scenario. Weaken Liverpool so they have zero chance of catching us.

Take away Arsenal's summer long target.

AND we keep Bale.

I don't see how either could then strengthen to compete with us tbh.

We have apparently said we want well in excess of £100 million for Bale that must surely equate to a huge increase in his salary if he stays. We can have no argument for not increasing his salary to over £150,000 per week.

With or without Bale we will not easily qualify for the CL next season.

IMHO the title i between Citeh and Chelski, United will be there or there abouts, even if Moyes is not as good as old whisky face (which he probably isn't).

That leaves one space but that is not a given. I agree that it will be a massive underachievement if we don't get in the top 4, and I believe that we could put up a good fight for 3rd, 2nd or dare I say it even 1st, but qualifying is not going to be easy

Agree with this. There is a lot of uncertainty around us at the moment players wise (Bale in particular) and at Arsenal it's different. Wenger is building a decent side that is gelling well, as seen by the solid defensive performances at the end of last season. Yes they haven't signed anyone but there's time yet and I don't think Wenger will sign more than 1 or 2 first team players as that would disrupt their settled side. That's the concern for me with us, i'd say as it is with a centre half, Capoue and Bale staying we have a better squad on paper that should be finishing ahead of them, but they have a team now and not a group of individuals thrown together as a result of a squad overhaul. It's going to take us a year at least to achieve that even if Bale stays. The top 4 race will be between us Arse and Pool and it's going to be very close.

Assuming Bale stays, the only automatic additions to the first team will presumably be Paulinho and Soldado. I don't think Chadli or Capoue will go straight into the first team by any means. In fact I don't know that Paulinho will immediately either, he could be blooded slowly like Sandro was. I suppose on the other hand you do have to take into account that in terms of bedding in from last season, Rose will essentially be a new player as well though.

Perez is the only one who wants Bale at RM. CR7 kicking up an absolute shit storm. We won't take less than 100m. #gareththepawn

not sure if this should be in the itk thread

Not really. I know this is massively off-topic but it's a point that has always annoyed me. For one thing, in what respect (other than being a gooner) was he a shit to begin with? And with light to everything since, I think he's been turned into the scapegoat for the public's dislike for the excesses of modern football. The spin put on his contract issues with Arsenal is mad. Now I completely accept that saying "when he said I was only going to be paid 55k a week I almost veered off the road" isn't going to endear you to the £25k-a-year public, I think it's absolutely reasonable to be upset if your employer verbally agrees to one rate of pay, and then shorts you on it when it comes to the official contract. The amount of money isn't relevant.

I'm not defending Cole from all accusations of course - secretly meeting with Chelsea WAS emblematic of the arrogance and entitlement of the modern footballer, and the rumour that when cheating on Cheryl with one girl, he slapped the bird's arse so hard during sex that he left the imprint of his wedding ring on her bumcheek is one of the bleakest images imaginable - but a lot of it is just bullshit based on people's preconceptions. For example "notorious arsehole Ashley Cole cheats on England's rose Cheryl Cole" turned people further against him, whereas "national hero and demi-god David Beckham cheats on pouting dimwit Victoria" somehow led to Beckham becoming MORE popular despite them being the exact same behaviour.

Whenever I've seen interviews with Ashley Cole he's come across as a decent guy, albeit one who is understandably uncomfortable when confronted with the media who continually slaughter.

Sorry mods I know this is irrelevant, but I've always been sort of annoyed that Ashley Cole is held up as the biggest scumbag in football when there are so many whose crimes massively outweigh everything he's done.

I know it is totally off topic, but I totally agree with this.

he was the person who started that "white storm" thing at the start of the summer we signed VDV. Maybe he hears something from Madrid's end?

But this is a strawman. Who says that Ronaldo is worth 100m? He WAS worth 84£ (They paid 80£, I adjusted for inflation) when Real Madrid bought him. If you were to buy Ronaldo now, you would pay considerable more! Saying that we want 100£ is kind of ludacris (since that it implies that Bale is worth more than Ronaldo was when he was 24 years old), but it is in no way comparing Bale to the Ronaldo of today.

Yep I think I see what you're saying here. I think I remember, after Real confirmed the £80m Ronaldo signing, due to inflation or exchange rates etc, Ronaldo actually never cost more than Zidane did?

Thats true BUT Levy wont give him more money for nothing - He will have to agree to probably a 1 year extension in order to get the payrise. If so when RM come knocking again in a year still has 3 years on contract - price still £100m+ OR even more if GB has an even better season ;)
