Tottenham will be looking to extend their seven-match unbeaten run in the Premier League when they face former manager Martin Jol's Fulham on Sunday.
Spurs' re-emergence as a major force in English football can arguably be traced back to Jol's time in charge at White Hart Lane between 2004 and 2007, when he steered the club to two successive fifth-place finishes.
They have continued to make progress under Harry Redknapp and fifth is probably a minimum requirement this season, as Tottenham would love to break back into the UEFA Champions League spots.
An undefeated league run stretching back to August has certainly raised hopes of finishing in the top four, with last weekend's impressive 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers keeping them in touch with the leading pack.
Redknapp has since undergone minor heart surgery to unblock coronary arteries and is in good spirits as he looks forward to returning to work.
He had hoped to sit in the dugout at Craven Cottage after missing the trip to Rubin Kazan in the Europa League, but has been advised not to come back for another fortnight.
While Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat in Russia, Fulham were also in Europa League action and produced a stylish display to demolish Wisla Krakow 4-1 and move to the brink of qualifying for the last 32.
The Cottagers have not been quite as consistent domestically and remain in the bottom half of the Premier League on 10 points from as many games.
A 2-0 victory over Wigan last Saturday did at least give Fulham some breathing space above the relegation zone and they will be determined to cap a fine week with another three points.
Team news

Jol will have to assess the fitness of the Fulham squad in the aftermath of Thursday's clash with Wisla, having stuck to his word with a strong side selected.
Moussa Dembele will return to contention after serving a European suspension and could come straight back into the starting XI.
Orlando Sa (hamstring), Simon Davies (knee), Philippe Senderos and Aaron Hughes (both thigh) are definitely sidelined.
Tottenham defender William Gallas could make his first Premier League appearance of the season after he suffered no reaction when making his comeback from a calf injury against Rubin Kazan.
Luka Modric has a slight groin problem but should be fit while Roman Pavlyuchenko came off with a back complaint in his homeland on Thursday and will be monitored over the next couple of days.
Michael Dawson (Achilles), Niko Kranjcar (thigh) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) are all out while there are doubts over Giovani dos Santos (calf), Vedran Corluka (foot), and Danny Rose (ankle).
Kevin Bond and Joe Jordan, who will once again take charge of team affairs in Redknapp's absence, are sure to ring the changes after resting many senior players against Rubin.

Fulham captain Danny Murphy is a slight doubt after coming off with a minor knee complaint in Thursday's 4-1 defeat of Wisla Krakow in the Europa League.

Bryan Ruiz was ineligible for that tie so will return against Tottenham, as should striker Mousa Dembele.

Spurs defender William Gallas came through the match against Rubin Kazan unscathed and is now in contention.

Luka Modric should play despite a groin problem but Tom Huddlestone, Michael Dawson and Niko Kranjcar are still out.

To me, this match is the weekend's most attractive-looking fixture in the Premier League as the one thing I am expecting from it is goals.

Both sides have attacking players in top form. Fulham's Andrew Johnson scored two superb goals on Thursday in the Europa League clash with Wisla Krakow, and Clint Dempsey is now just one goal short of breaking Brian McBride's record for scoring the most Premier League goals by an American.

For Tottenham, Rafael van der Vaart simply cannot stop scoring at the moment and they carry a goal threat all over the pitch.

However, both teams will have to find a way past two of the Premier League's most experienced and impressive goalkeepers. Tottenham's Brad Friedel will be playing in his 276th consecutive Premier League match, while Mark Schwarzer has played 496 games in English league football.

Fulham boss Martin Jol was a hugely popular figure during his three years managing Tottenham and came within a whisker of leading them to the Champions League until that infamous stomach bug struck his team on the last day of the 2005-06 season.

Jol's successor at Spurs, Harry Redknapp, underwent heart surgery this week and will be missing from the dugout on Sunday. His players will be keen to get a result to help aid his recovery and the form book says they will be favourites given that they are unbeaten since those two defeats to the Manchester clubs at the start of the season.

Head-to-head

  • Fulham's last league win over Tottenham came almost three years ago (2-1 in November 2008). They have managed just one victory in their last 10 league matches with Spurs, but thrashed them 4-0 in last season's FA Cup.
  • This is the 76th meeting between the sides. Tottenham have won 37 and Fulham 12, with 26 draws.
  • Fulham boss Martin Jol managed Tottenham from November 2004 to October 2007. He took charge of 148 games in all competitions, winning 67, losing 43 and drawing 38. In his first full season in charge, he led Spurs to fifth place, their highest league position since 1990.
Fulham

  • Fulham beat Wigan 2-0 away from home last Saturday despite having only 38% of possession and half as many shots as their opponents.
  • Clint Dempsey's goal against Wigan was his 36th in the Premier League, which equals the most by an American (Brian McBride also scored 36 goals).
  • Fulham have only won two of their last 22 London derbies, but one of them came in their most recent attempt at Craven Cottage when they beat QPR 6-0.
Tottenham

  • Tottenham have scored at least twice in each of their last seven league matches.
  • Having lost their opening two league matches, Spurs have won six and drawn one of their last seven, a run that started when Scott Parker made his debut for the club.
  • If fit, Luka Modric will make his 100th Premier League appearance for Tottenham.
  • Rafael van der Vaart is bidding to become only the seventh player in Tottenham's history to score in six or more consecutive league matches. Garth Crooks is the last player to achieve the feat between December 1984 and January 1985.

COYS!

Well up for this. Liverpool slipped up so hopefully we can at least take advantage of that. Here's hoping Fulham have a Europa hangover.

Anyone know their record with League games after playing in Europa?

I really think our defence is better than theirs anyway....I think we'll see plenty of the ball, create plenty of chances...its all about taking them and if we do that I fancy us even though they may get a goal.

2-1 Spurs. VDV, and Ade to get back to scoring ways (not that he hasn't been playing well, he bloody has)

Villa Drew - 0-0
Wolves Lost - 2-0
Newcastle Lost 2-1
Man City Drew- 2-2
QPR Won 6-0
Everton Lost 3-1

Nice one, thanks. Not great then, although a draw to Man City isn't bad at all and I remember that Everton one, they could have easily, and in all truth really should have won that with Zamora's late chance.

We should certainly be the frehser of the two teams that's for sure. Would love to see Adebayor get a goal or 2 tomorrow and hopefully VDV + Parker continue their good form. Lennon will probably get better with each game and I'm sure Bale's feeling a lot more confident now which can only be a good thing.

Prediction: 1-3

Hopefully this is the season where we can go on and win thse types of games which we would usually draw or lose.
I don't know why (apart from the fact that I love Spurs) but I have a feeling that we have a mental strength about us now that we didn't have before and to add the likes of Scotty P (for the midfield grit we oh so needed) and Ade (for the hold up play and scoring ability) have made us amuch tougher outfit to beat, for any team.

Hope they are a bit tired. Duff has played 19 games this season (not including international), playing us after only 2 days rest has to take something out of you.

Quietly confident, Tricky game but the team just seems to have such great momentum at the moment. I say 2-1 to us.

I know I should be, everything tells me I should be, but I am just not confident about this game.

2-1 to Fulham, maybe 1-1.

Just have a bad feeling. Hope I am wrong. 3 points would be huge.

I would be more apprehensive had they not played Thursday night, but they did and big Martin fielded a strong side. History tells us that European games on a Thursday night invariably affect League performances thereafter.

History also points out that the moment you take something for granted, is the moment you wake up with a slit throat.

eh?

didn't realise that was a saying!

Seriously though, I wasn't saying to take anything for granted....just that there is the possibility that fatigue could affect Fulham's performance, that has nothing to do with how we apply ourselves for this game, its still a bloody tough place to go.

This is the hope. They could come out guns blazing and catch us off guard for all we know but hopefully their Europa League game will have some negative effect on them.

Losing before an international break really really sucks as well. Watching Tottenham replaced by watching England, couldn't get much worse

Disappointed there is no "must win" post. Is SC getting sensible at last? As far as applying ourselves and not taking Fulham for granted go, Scotty Parker will not allow this to happen. He will drive the others on by example. Parker's momentum = team tempo = 3 more points.
In other news, when exactly will Newcastle f off and drop some points? Yeah Yeah, Man City next week, but seriously, who saw The Magpies top 3 after 11?

Just invented it

I am with you a hundred percent, it's just the more things seem to go our way the more nervous I get. Hope the players are up for this and do what we know they are capable of. COYS
