It's that time of the year where we are currently fighting on 3 fronts but in the space of a week could be only looking at the league. Similar to last year where we were in a cup final. European progress is important and so is the cup. How Poch balances this out over the 3 games leading to the Swansea game can change the whole feel of the season. I think he has done this well so far this season and see no reason for that to change.

Fiorentina I believe are a good side, Palace on Sunday will want to distract from a poor league run.

Who'd want to be a football manager eh?

Hoping one of my local drinking holes manages to have BT Sport Europe (whatever the jeff that is). I will be leaving work ASAP to ensure I find the correct establishment.

Oh, and going back to the tourism thread at the start of this thread, anyone who is out in Florence:

1. Go to the Medici tomb...it's fearsome.
2. See David. Yes it's art but it's good art. Plus you can point at his winky.
3. Go to the Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco (the White Boar) - stonking food
4. Go inside the Batistero. Not as much about Gabriel Batistuta as I was hoping...but still good.
5. Get off your phone and go and enjoy Florence you mug!

The risk is that they'll do something stupid like show the Man Utd game instead. Being in Greenwich I'm not exactly in the Spurs heartland.

true - i forgot they kicked off at the same time...and Greenwich is much closer to Manchester than Tottenham so will almost certainly have a higher Man U fan population :)

I'm confidant based on the fact we won't be fielding a lineup this awful again.

Thing is we played so well in the first half of that game, should of been at least 4 up at half time and the tie done. All it needed was Kane instead of bobby playing

I think you can see Florence on Magic Round About.

Florence is indeed an unbelievable city and I'm jealous of any of you heading out there for the game.

I'm sure you'll all have a great time.

Just the one thing before you go though

If, by some twist of fate, your name is Fiona, don't tell the locals.

It means 'large ****' in the Florentine dialect.

Honestly.

Still, chances are that most of you going won't be called Fiona, so enjoy the game.

And, if you find you have the need to strike up an immediate rapport with a large number of Fiorentina fans, then slag off Juventus. They hate Juventus with a vengeance. From memory, they're not overly keen on Pisa either. Although that's more of a joke rivalry. Like us with West Ham.

Now that's the kind of advice you never got on 'Wish you were here'.
Funny story, but admit it you are either making it up or confused by some low budget porn movie.

Do they have McDonalds in Florence? I'm not bothered about going if not.
I know you are joking, but it's ironically the first thing you see to leaving the train station.

I'm sure there's a 'Fiona and Tina/Fiorentina' joke in there somewhere.

I know you are joking, but it's ironically the first thing you see to leaving the train station.

Indeed there is. I ate there whilst waiting for a train to Rome.

It was adequate.

Should be a good game this. I'm expecting pretty much full strength except Vorm in goal obviously and maybe Mason and Chadli in. The full back rotation doesn't really count as changes anymore as really any combination of those is ok.

Added to that, you MUST go and have the Steak Florentine at Il Latini!

People travel from here (South france) 5 hours just to have it.

I agree, but when Dier and Kane start tomorrow, and against Palace, and against Fiorentina again, and against Swansea, we'll all start to see how lack of squad depth in key positions might begin to cause us problems.

Kane has started 5 out of 9 Cup games this season.

Including vs Arsenal in the League Cup (damn right), and covering for Son and Clinton's injuries during the group stages.

The only time Poch has veered away from that policy was the Colchester game.

Against Leicester in the 3rd round, he started Wimmer (pre Verts injury), Vorm, Chadli, Trippier, Bentaleb, Carroll, and Onomah.

Playing several into a condition where they could and have been very useful for us in the PL.

So given previous evidence and the schedule ahead we can assume he won't flog the team.

Funny story, but admit it you are either making it up or confused by some low budget porn movie.

At the risk of turning the match thread into an Italian linguistics lesson, the Italian word for **** is Fica (1). The Italian suffix -one or -ona denotes something that is larger. A 'Ficona' is therefore a larger version of a 'Fica'. The Florentines don't pronounce the hard 'C' in words, rendering 'Ficona' as 'Fihona' (or, to our ears, Fiona).

So, all true, I'm afraid. But I don't want to derail the match thread any more so my prediction is a narrow 1-0 victory, courtesy of Hristian Erihsen. Or possibly Ile Wal'er. 'OYS.

(3) Difficult to find a reference for this, but there is a book on the 'Vohabolario' and 'Vernaholo' of Florence when the normal words would be 'Vocabolario' and 'Vernacolo' (Vocabulary and Vernacular respectively) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vohabolario-vernaholo-fiorentino-dialetto-toscano/dp/8896376106

I think Dier has played in every game this season aside from suspension, and made the third most tackles and third most passes against Man Citeh. I think if Poch thought he was fucked Bentaleb or Mason, or Carroll would start. As for Kane well thats a given that he will start, a second striker was reviewed by the Club in January and deemed not to be imperative.

I''d back Poch's decision on squad section over any drama Queen in SC to be honest.

But six of that team are argueably in our first team now plus one squad member? and I reckon of that team Chadli, Lamela, Bentaleb and Davies will be playing again tonight. Possibly Eriksen, but I'm guessing he will be rested. Given there is bound to be a fair amount of rotation the quality we'll put out tonight will be about the same.

As someone else said, we only lost the last time because Bobby couldn't hit a barn door (bless his cottons). Fortunately, Son doesn't have the same probblem, so I think he will get one plus possibly one more from elsewhere. Just a case of how many Vorm lets by given he hasn't had that much to do of late.

Interesting game all in all and I'm loking forward to it as a small distraction from the PL.
