I just switched over and rewound to find it. I have absolutely no idea what the offence was there. Mind-boggling.

I agree. VAR never gets involved for that during the men's World Cup. The standard for involvement seems much lower during this tournament, even though it's using all of the same VARs.

Could you really claim it wasn’t used in that manner today though?

The only issue for me and one which remains a big bear is if it’s supposed to ensure the correct decision is made, should it not have been a penalty? Should it not have been a red card?

Diplomatic decisions shouldn’t come into it.

It definitely want used like that today. I hate the phrase, but many people thought it was just going to be used for clear and obvious errors. The goal that Cameroon had ruled out wasn't an obvious error. It was marginally offside with a player facing away from goal. It might be the right decision, but that's not the kind of incident I thought we'd be looking at when VAR was first mentioned.

The penalty incident could have gone either way.
The challenge at the end was a red card offense.

.

So would you also agree that City's goal that would have won the tie against Spurs in the Champions League was also marginally offside and should have stood?

Cameroon manager said his players acted with professionalism. I must have blinked and missed that.

He also said that many calls went against them. He must have missed the red card they should have had in the 4th minute.

Shockingly long VAR check for an obviously not offside goal.

I've been so critical of VAR this tournament even though I've always supported it and thought it was applied brilliantly in Russia and well enough in the CL. Something has gone very wrong in the application of VAR in this tournament and I'm inclined to blaming IFAB's new rule changes.

Everyone frightened of getting it wrong with millions watching.

38 seconds between the offside call and the goal being awarded. That's a shocking long check?
It felt longer but yes, that was so obvious it shouldn't take more than one replay at normal pace to see it.

People often forget once they verify it was onside, they also need to go back to when France first gained possession and confirm that there we're no other fouls or offside decisions in the build-up to the goal.

Well yes but actually in this particular case BBC are reporting that the assistant flagged, which I didn't see. In which case I have no idea what she thought she saw.

So I withdraw my criticism of this particular incident but remain critical of the application of VAR in the tournament as a whole.

First time I've noticed that the women aren't just wearing men's kits.
Some of the women in this game tonight are fine:dummy:

I thought the first goal for England was the only 'wrong' decision, though I still don't like the VAR process. I think the ball was mis-controlled by the defender and it went to the keeper, rather than being a deliberate back pass?

It is debatable but I think the keeper should never take the risk in those situations.
