I wouldnt go that far. Before today Eric Dier had been magnificent in the back line, yet the moment he has a bad game people want him dropped for Fazio
We're getting done for pace in behind with or without Fazio, so we might as well play Fazio as he brings attributes Vertonghen lacks. He probably should have played today, however with him in the team we were frequently barbequed by the ball over the top and its only by a combination of Lloris, bad finishing, and pure luck that we weren't punished much more for this. Games like Utd at Home for example of this. This has largely stopped since Dier came into the team. Even when he came back in against West Brom for example, there were three occasions where a simple ball over the top was latched onto as he struggled with it.
Dier is the better prospect. He's quicker over the ground, isn't that bad in the air, and is better with the ball at his feet. There are certain games where Fazio might be useful, but I'd rather persist with Dier for the majority.

Walker is having a mare at the moment but chiriches at right back is also heart in your mouth stuff. I'd rather see if yedlin is any good at all at right back for the rest of the season.
Actually I said that to my sons. I'd like to see what Yedlin can do.
Its a 'pick your poison' situation, me personally I feel more comfortable with Fazio in there, especially on set pieces. One things for sure Fazio wouldnt just let a player run straight through him like Dier did today. Not by low percentage, hopeful lofted balls in behind into the space. I honestly haven't seen a professional defender look so uncomfortable dealing with it. Wouldn't look out of place in my Sunday league team!
I said the other day that I think Fazio would look very good for a midtable team. One that defends deep and has defends the penalty box. He'll kick and head everything away that gets thrown in there. When you play a high line though and the onus is on us taking the game to the opposition and the centre backs have to step out of defence with the ball... Well I don't think that's his game really.
He'd have been off, red carded like he was twice earlier in the season. Prior to that he'd have had a couple of assists like Chelsea and Fiorentina. Its a 'pick your poison' situation, me personally I feel more comfortable with Fazio in there, especially on set pieces. Zero leadership in Vertonghe. I thought he was Ajax's captain.Your right Dier had a poor game..but were was Vertonghen. When it comes to actually defending it was left to Dier, there were moments in the first half when Dier is over to cover Vertonghen... out of position. I'm fed up people saying he played ok when he bloody hides

I think he would be a much better DM honestlyI thought it was more of an issue that Mason was tasked with Felaini first half so not sure that Fazio would have made any great difference there. However, I do think that one of Fazio's strengths is that we look more organised at the back when he plays.
The one for me under threat at the moment would be Jan. I know he looks super sexy bringing the ball out of defense but I'm not convinced that he is actually that great a defender in the Prem. He's not super quick, not great in the air and isn't a leader who organises our back line. I wonder if he could be a decent DM?
Like we are just made to leak em...schoolboy defending for first...Hugo could of had an easy scoop but chadlis awkward clearance goes straight to carrick, and nabil ended it perfectly to give Rooney that celebration against spurs and cement our place as the leagues punching bag...god I hope we start to earn some got dam respectI don't think Fazio is the answer, but I do feel he should have been in the starting line up today. Mostly because I'm fed up with our lack of aerial defence and I assumed Fellaini would be an aerial threat. It was painful watching Walker and Dier allow him to take the ball down on his chest without challenge.
We will never know if the inclusion of Fazio would have helped today. I would of fancied him to clear the ball for the second goal, or even just to jump.
My real concern at this point in time is, we have a rubbish defence or the system is putting too much pressure on the defence. End result is we leak goals.
