We even looked defensively comfortable! Yes, we were sat a bit deeper than normal, but we seemed to be just soaking up any pressure. Was happy to see that given how jittery we normally look.

I can recall one bit of dithering from Fazio where he almost lost the ball in our half, but apart from that I agree that we looked surprisingly assured at the back. It was certainly one of Vertonghen's better performances this season.

Was MOTD accurate? On that it seemed Everton had the better no. of chances even in the first half and we maybe rode our luck a bit.
MOTD had to have that slant to keep Danny Murphy happy, because we finished higher than last year and that meant he didn't have another chance to promote his mate Sherwood.

eriksen.. moments of class in this game but at the same time he looked timid, scared to shoot from distance, Something which he has lacked for a few matchdays now. Hope we get a more consistent and improved player. Despite his floury of late goals before Christmas.. he has disappointed me.

We saw something today we haven't seen since beginning of season - the devastating free movement and rotation of the 3 behind Kane. Remember QPR?

Wonder why it stopped for a period. The Everton defense didn't know who to mark

No we totally dominated the first half. Just sloppyness in the final third meant we didn't kill them off.
In fairness, Stones was also an absolute horse in stopping a lot of our best attacking plays.

Totally agree on this..

I know it's not his game but I also worry that he never wants to put his foot in at all, many times this season we have lost possession up the field because he has shirked a tackle or more or less, jumped out of the way whilst in possession.

He always goes missing in the big games too, he is our string puller, we cannot afford to be a man light in those games.
I know he is young and he will improve his all round game but Poch's system demands more effort.

Not just having a pop at him either, Lamela and Chadli have been going missing at times this season too.

Hopefully Pritchard and a newcomer will push him harder in the coming year and we'll see a more sustained season from him.

That is a major point of this squad.... too many have gone missing in game after game... We need an on field player that is totally committed to THFC and plays, in most games, has that no nonsense personality... Dawson was the nearest for total commitment and effort, yet he was too nice i thought. Someone like Roy Keane .. or Dave Mackay (rip), Graham Roberts...Ericson has the ability, now needs the mental toughness, to stand up to the Charlie Adams type of player. Lamela can give as good as he gets..and gets more stuck in than Ericson,

We do have such a player in the making: Nabil Bentaleb.

@prawnsandwich: I see I got a spam from you. I forgot to include the likes of you who would have been hurting with our improved position on last year. I guess you'll just have to put away that knife you were sharpening.

We looked assured when Fazio and Verts first started playing together... then Poch inexplicably dropped Fazio.

Still, it's amazing (or not so) what a few recent wins have done for our league standing. If only we'd won two more games, and drawn another. I'm confident we'll improve next season, and (fairly) confident Poch is the man for the job.

That is the most impressively contrived Sherwood dig I've seen so far. Well done!

Not an hour goes by without Murphy lamenting the opportunity that was ripped from Mr Sherwood's hands. If you want contrived, I suggest you listen again to some of monotone support given by Murphy. Still, I'm glad my comment irked you too.
A special mention must go to one Dave Mason, who contributes to The Observer as iconic Spurs fan. He gave our season 4/10, probably because he was also having to grit his teeth at the fifth position achieved by a young, disjointed team, whose manager has been consistently maligned by a section of the fan base. I think they are a bunch of Jeremies, this section of the fan base: as in rhyming slang for our somewhat underwhelming last health secretary.

I saw the Observer thing, would have been nice if someone who wasn't a complete idiot got to do that. Poorly represents most fans feelings. At worst, at very worst, you can say this season is 6/10. I'd give it a standard 7/10.

I'll be gutted if we sell Dembele - we look so much better with him on the pitch

agreed I think he can be annoying but he adds muscel to our midfield, against united at the lane they looked scared it was like they didn't know what to do when he came on.

You never know, we may keep him. Maybe, we just have to work within his limitations. His limitations seem to be about him wanting to play safe, which may just be a lack of confidence. Perhaps, he has suffered more than most with the managerial changes.

If you look at his performance against Fiorentina, it is not inexplicable. A former captain of EL champions played completely irresponsibly, thereby leaving a mountain for us to climb. It contributed to our loss of form, the bubble of expectation burst for our young team.
