Brighton are getting silly with their valuations. Its ridiculous to ask for £120mill for a player that has potential but only scored a maximum of 6 goals in a season.

Move on, it wont be us signing him.

Scored as many goals overall as Hojlund last season in a lot fewer games, apparently he's worth £72m & that's without the PL and Homegrown premium, plus he's older.

Brighton's valuation is probably about right in the current market sadly, even more sadly it's one that is probably out of our range.

I personally hope he never leaves Brighton as Bohs would get almost €20m from the deal. But that's just me being selfish.

But is this why it’s good to take a risk with someone worth 30million? Like Orban or Nuamah?

This highlights our piss poor investment in youth over the last ten years. We have some promise coming through but they are two-four years away.

Paul Barber, Brighton's Chairman, is following Levy's playbook to be honest. Hoover up good, young talent, sell effectively and keep doing it. That was what built us up in the 2000s. They're actually doing it even better than we did (they've made far better managerial appointments for example). Would not surprise me at all if they become a perennial top 6 challenger.

yeah Moore is 2-3 years younger but is touted as a similar level of talent. Better if really nurturing him then spend 120m on Ferguson, that is just insane money

Different positions, but I don’t disagree.

and that sort of money goes on totally sure things. He wouldn’t be the first 18 year to fail to live up to promise

Possibly, there is a lot of young Irish players being snapped up by European clubs in recent years, mainly due to the fact that they're staying in Ireland a bit longer and getting a chance at playing in our own league. As an example, Ferguson, Bazunu & Ogbene played up as far as senior level in league of Ireland, while the likes of Parrott was taken at schoolboy level. We're seeing more young lads getting to the next level, where before so many prospects got caught up in the hype or where homesick and didn't make it. Makes more sense to send young adults rather than kids across to play. Costs more for the clubs, but reckon that was one of the main stumbling blocks in that lower league clubs wanted to fleece our league on the cheap.
For years we've been hearing about "following the Norwegian model", but nobody seemed to have a clue what that was, its very simple, blood your players in your own league and have them under contract. Not may on here will know the name, Danny Mandriou, but last season Rovers lost one of our best players for €30k to Lincoln, who should realistically have cost so much more, what's worse is due to the contact we had him on, we don't even get any re-sale percentage. We fucked up on his contract and he got snapped up, possibly one of the best players in league one.
Ferguson broke through to the first team at Bohs before going to Brighton, there have been quite a few in recent years going to Italian teams, whereas before it was across the pond to English clubs or Celtic.

Plus it's not like he's going to be worthless any time soon is it? They can extract value through his football by holding onto him for 5 years and still get a healthy sum from selling him. We held onto Kane until he was 30 and did so.

Any chance we had of signing Ferguson was lost when he signed a new contract with Brighton.

He definitely has a big future I think, I agree once he gets more and more experience he could well be a big star. I think his physical make up makes him really suited to the Premier League. Really shame there is no way to get him to Spurs.
