I get what you're saying but I don't think it's that deep tbh. From my perspective we are potentially removing a non-homegrown, surplus-to-requirements player from the squad whilst getting a small fee. Considering the small amount we paid for him a decade or so ago, a fee is a bonus. He's been a great servant and was once a key part of a good team but those days have gone and it's time all parties moved on.

It's not about what he's achieved or what he's given to the club, his home grown status or his recent cameos where he didn't slack off - it's about human beings being disrespectful cock-sniffers. They will throw the most dirty abuse at people online, or among friends, because they don't personally know them so fuck em.

Lost a yard of pace? Sure, say he's slower than we need him to be for our high press, that's logical and makes sense, but to rip the piss out of him because experienced managers continued to pick him, or he's shown a level of dedication to the team that WE ALL SUPPORT above what we see from a lot of players - weak as cold piss.

Some of you need to have a word with yourselves and wonder if people talk about you in the same tones when you're not in ear shot. Let down merchants.

Agreed. He’s more than played his part in cementing our place as a top club in the new order. I’ll fondly remember him kick starting our most successful era in modern times with his last minute, match winning, debut goal against West Ham. He was an emblem of that side and he helped me reconnect and identify with the club again following a dark and soulless period cheering on a bunch of mercenary and downright unlikeable players. He seems like a top human being and I think his loss will be felt in the dressing room and behind the scenes more than we’ll ever know: like Son, he seemed like an important bridge across many different cultures and potential cliques within the squad, and he probably would have been an obvious captain choice if he suited Ange’s playing style. He doesn’t deserve the stick he gets.

it's annoying as a lot of it is recency bias, yeah he has not been at a super top level recently and is now not being picked (because he doesn't fit the type of player required) but he is still a good defender and player and has been brilliant at points in the past playing in a mix of positions and in some very good spurs teams. I would not be surprised that if he joins another team, especially bayern and plays regularly that he will be back in the England team.

I honestly wouldn’t be that surprised. Having Bayern indexed to him will boost his profile and act as a reminder to clubs that there’s a player of significant stature available for peanuts. English players are in vogue at the moment so he’ll probably attract attention abroad. We’re also not the only club affected by injuries or international commitments. Sounds laughable but it did cross my mind that Liverpool might be interested in a utility player a la Gomez who could cover a number of positions as they’re down to the bare bones. They are known to drop a panic signing every now and then, especially at CB (Caulker, Klavan, Kabak). Newcastle might be another option as he’s cheap and he’s surely better than Lascelles who also just got injured?

Not going to turn down good money, but I wouldn't have been surprised if the club had allowed Dier to leave on a free given his service to the club and the fact that he didn't cost much initially. Hope he gets the move and it works out for him, I always felt he was limited ability wise but nobody could ever question his commitment. Surely his best moments would have to include his invasion of the stands after the Norwich game.

I really think it's a win/win all around tbh. We get a CB that we think will better fit our system and build for the future.

Dier isn't fancied in our new system and needs a new challenge. He's been a great servant and hope he does well if he goes to Bayern.

Bayern are looking for a fourth CB option in their squad but it's reported Tuchel likes how he can operate in a CDM role as well. Seems a very "Bayern" signing.

No... but I follow and watch German football closely every week... I don't live in the UK... live TV, interviews, matchdays etc. They are actively looking for CB's or CDM's or combos... They have been using Guerreiro as CDM as well... Tuchel has said that he's not happy with what he's got. Not enough... Dier fits both roles.
