May well be true but the problem with Dier is he has 0 acceleration and the agility of a brick
Agree, but Davies is even slower.

I'd be amazed if we see Davies as a CB in a back four this season as well. Which makes the decision not to sign another CB even more baffling.

Could Tuanzebe on a free be an option to tide us over as cover til January? HG too?

Good old Steven Caulker is another, but no, I don't think we should. We're building for the future and Phillips & Dorrington's development will be part of that.

I am all for giving young players the opportunity. We will never know if an 18/20 yo is ready unless we play them.
It is possible that they go up a level when given the chance. But I also believe we should start putting them in sooner rather than later - during games that are comforbslr for us and see what happens.

Should be more do-able now with the extra subs allowed.

Is that freezing them out? Maybe it's just that we have differing definitions of what that means, but to me freezing them out is pushing them away from the rest of the squad and forcing them to train alone or with another group. That hasn't happened with any of them. They haven't been deemed good enough so they've been omitted from the match day squads and that is all.

I'm not alone in thinking they were frozen out:

I think the problem has been that until very recently we’ve not been comfortably winning games and so been able to put in some youth players..

Hopefully that changes now.

if true, what does Dier really want from Levy? just asking about when he gets paid off i guess

Reminds me of Danny Rose and the “I’m off to see Daniel” comment from the documentary
Yeah, I would hope that Levy told him to see Ange if he had any questions about his status in the squad. It should be none of Levy's business...

If i was Ange i wouldn't be happy with Dier. If you got any questions you go to the manager not the chairman, what is Levy gonna do? Dier hasn' t been selected for one squad yet, surely he can read the writing on the wall. A bit arrogant if you ask me.

If he is being completely frozen out, so unable to what he is contracted to do, it's perfectly reasonable for him to discuss that with the person who is accountable for his contract.

I agree Dier's status in the squad should be nothing to do with Levy, but Levy is the one who needs to figure out what to do with anyone who is on the books and not in the manager's plans. Gardening leave, contract termination talks etc. - things that should be none of Ange's business once he has decided a player isn't in his plans.

Didn't do a very good job if so, not actually giving Matt Law any details of anything at all if you actually read the article.
Yeah, they literally could’ve had a meeting about anything if they even had one of any note. I’m as critical of Dier as anyone but there’s no point creating imaginary sticks to beat him with as well.

I'm not alone in thinking they were frozen out:

Guessing he feels he should be on the bench at the very least but at the end of the day seems pretty clear Postecoglou doesn't rate him as a fit for his system so I'm not sure what kind of outcome he expects from the talks. Ange is paid to make these kind of decisions and if he feels Dier doesn't fit into what he is trying to do then that's fine by me especially when you can see why the manager doesn't see him fitting.

This is why I really wanted him gone because it doesn't help anyone him just hanging around when the manager doesn't rate him. Have no idea if he had the chance to move on a permanent or loan, but if yes then not sure he can have too many complaints and if the issue he is discussing is him not getting a look in, he needs to take it on the chin.

If his plan was to see his last year out and then move on a free next summer then he needs to accept the consequences of what comes with that decision when he clearly isn't rated by the manager. In comparison. Sanchez was making the bench and could have sat tight and looked to go on a free but fair play to him, moved somewhere he'd get more of a look in so have very little sympathy for Dier.

Hope Levy reiterates in the nicest possible way that the team is going in a different direction under the new manager and if the managers decides not to pick him in the squad/for the bench then that's his decision.

Interesting that Dier thinks running to Daddy, I mean Daniel would have any effect

Agree I think Ange tried it in pre season against West Ham and realises then it won’t work so made sure Davies was then just the back-up to Udogie.

Dier is even slower than Davies, he is a better CB but he just completely doesn’t suit this high line and he’s also much better in a back 3.
