I thought Dier was pretty poor against West Ham could not see what the pundits saw in his performance.. He looks like he needs a pre season

Agreed. He was our weakest player and really lacks match fitness. Not just physically but awareness as well. Just a second behind everything. I think Mourinho will stick with him and give him more chances as he knows he can be a good player.

Looks off the pace, understandable given how little he has placed. Saying that, long term I just don't think he is the solution at DM. I know Mourinho has mentioned he wants someone with positional strengths for that position, but I think we can do better and get someone who has those strengths but is also more mobile and dynamic than him.

He just feels like a DM of yesteryear. You look at the likes of Kante, Fabinho etc and how they get about the pitch, Dier will never be that kind of player. Teams that press effectively like Liverpool and City must love seeing Dier in the oppo line up as it's so easy to nip in and get the ball off him due to him having the mobility of an oil tanker and looks like a defender playing in midfield.

It Was the whole team playing badly not just dier. That’ll be a tough one for him to take. I think he basically has to start him against bmouth otherwise his confidence will be shot. OR he’s decided early on he’s not good enough but I don’t think Jose will do that as he needs to keep the players on side especially early doors. Let’s see.

Jose is probably glad he didn’t have to pay 50m while at United to ultimately find out that Dier is a clogger. I said before that you only need to look at the quality of the likes of Fernandinho/Fabinho or Ndidi to realize the difference in quality that we require.

I've never been a fan of Dier as a CDM but to expect him to perform well with the severe lack of game time from injuries & illness is a tough ask. Hopefully the substitution works to show Dier that he has a long way to go and that he won't Jose favorite for long if he's not up to form.

Jose will say that at 0-2 at home you have to sacrifice your DCM.

He will also say that he could have pulled off a defender instead....

"We were losing 2-0, they were closing really well and I needed a second man with Dele Alli to come into the pockets. It was between Dier and Harry Winks but a hard decision. They understand, Eric understands but the reality it is never a easy and to make it clear, it was about the team not individuals. I thought about taking out one of the centre-backs and putting Eric in defence."

I reckon if it had been Vert playing and not Alder/Sanchez he'd have hooked Rose off, switched Vert out to left and put Dier CB.

He was fuming but i like that Jose has the balls to do these changes. Probably won't be taken well by the players but It may help that he's a serial winner.

Well I thought based off your previous posts Dier can't be coached (and Mourinho isn't here to improve him), was never good enough in 15/16, and never will be good enough for this team? At least we're all on the same page now that maybe with a run of games he could potentially recover his previous form and be an asset to Mou's side (at least until January) after you've been repeatedly attacking our understanding of football for daring to state this initially. I do appreciate you explaining the definition of an argument though, it's a difficult concept for most of us thick-headed posters to understand.

I'm all for hearing differing options, including your own, but you don't have to call everyone stupid for having one. The only person I've seen post in this thread with "misguided confidence in one's own opinion" is yourself.
Any other input tonight?

I hope he reconsiders and tries CB. Not sure he'll have a regular spot in CM under Jose.

Mm. I’m not sure what’s wrong with you, aside from being a thoroughgoing milquetoast but I’ve noticed that you plunge into some delerious tantrum every time someone criticises one of our players, this time by calling me a liar for having an opinion that causes your ovaries to oscillate at an untenable frequency.

He’s meant to be our defensive midfielder and like defensive midfielders for other teams, make tackles and interceptions. He doesn’t. And it’s not just this game it’s every game, and it’s over every season. He’s nowhere near other good defensive mids in terms of his contribution.

I was perfectly decent and polite and didn’t say you are a liar for having your own subjective take on things- which is, by the way, impossible - no matter how imbecilic and contrary to the facts it is. You haven’t demonstrated any tangible evidence that has any relevance, yet ignored the tangible evidence I provided ie. His astonishing lack of tackles and interceptions as a defensive midfielder relative to other, good, players in his positions.

It’s more than a little pathetic that you haven’t developed the ability to disagree civilly, as I attempted to. I’m very sorry you can’t take any criticism of spurs players without going all blubbery, passive aggressive and weird. Lol
He's got that in him. but be careful as he's got friends in high places round these parts that are similarly shouty-downy. Ignore's a good option as the input is predictable anyway.
