I think you're right. I hate the way they've split the games up between different companies. All it does is make the customer source from two different places increasing their monthly fee. If the prices go up a lot I'll get rid of it.

Honestly I was already thinking of cutting off sky sports, I love football but the way things are with the billionaire's ploughing so much money into certain clubs it could all get very predictable.. I'll see how it goes but I definitely don't see myself paying more for a BT channel and if Sky are not showing many of the big games then I may have no reason to stick with it.

I've only got Sky now as they gave it to me half price for a year, it it goes up it's a no-brainer it'll have to go.

BBC, ITV and C5 all bid for live rights.

BT bid for everything, that's what drove up the price.

Does anyone know when the overseas TV deal is due to be announced? I can see that jumping up quite a bit also.

Another good article: http://www.sportingintelligence.com...ng-where-the-money-goes-and-what-next-190601/

Scenario 1: 0% growth 2: 30% 3: 50% 4: 70% (same as the domestic) 5: 100%

The sad part of this is if we had gotten Champions league football we could have gone out and spent good cash on players/wages knowing even if we didn't get it again for the season after we would be getting a big bump in Premier League TV money to cover it.

BT to buy ESPN UK and Ireland channels

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21577676

BT has agreed to buy ESPN's UK and Ireland TV channels as it adds to its live sports coverage.

The deal sees BT acquire the ESPN and ESPN America channels, and their live rights to show FA Cup, Scottish Premier League, Uefa Europa League, and German Bundesliga matches.

The company will launch its BT Sport TV package in the summer.
BT had already secured the rights to show live English Premier League games for the first time, from next season.

The BT deal creates a bigger competitor for BSkyB, the satellite broadcaster that has increased its number of UK subscribers to 10 million on the back of sports rights.

BT already offers a broadcasting package through its BT Vision pay-TV offering. The ESPN deal is seen as a way to drive customers for BT Vision, which currently has about 700,000 subscribers.

The UK telecoms firm has been investing heavily in its sports offering, including buying the rights to show live Aviva Premiership rugby union matches and a deal with the WTA to show women's tennis.

It has taken on some big-name sports presenters including Jake Humphrey, who led the BBC's Formula One coverage, and Clare Balding who presented horse racing and Olympics coverage for the BBC.

After last year's auction of Premier League rights, which raised more than £3bn, ESPN was left with no rights to show live matches after the 2012-13 season.

The package went for 70% more than the previous one, with BSkyB agreeing to pay £2.28bn for the rights to 116 games per season from 2013-14 to 2015-16. BT, meanwhile, agreed to pay £736m for the rights to 38 games per season over the three-year period.

The ESPN deal is expected to be completed at the end of July. After that BT said it would continue to operate at least one ESPN-branded channel as part of its new sports package.

ESPN channels will broadcast from BT Sport's new facilities at the Olympic Park in Stratford.

"We are delighted to have reached agreement with ESPN for the acquisition of their UK channels business and that we have been able to add some exciting new sports rights to the ones we already have," said Marc Watson, chief executive of television, BT Retail.

"The FA Cup, Scottish Premier League and Europa League rights will allow us to offer customers of BT Sport even more quality live football, including our first games from the Scottish top flight and our first European competition rights."

The deal will also see BT continue to show the US sports currently shown on ESPN America, which includes college basketball, college football and Nascar racing.

Ross Hair, ESPN's managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "We could not be more proud of the TV channels built and nurtured by our talented team over the past four years.

"The value of that hard work is reflected in this deal with BT and the continuation of ESPN on television screens across the UK and Ireland."

The deal does not include ESPN Classic, which will be wound down.

ESPN America is dead to me without Sportsnation, Sportscenter and the NFL Countdown shows, I can get my PTI fix via the podcasts.

I hope they treat the other football leagues with respect and don't hide them all behind the red button.

It better be in HD and 5.1 too.

I sacked off my skysports sub and just watch everything on the net. It was upwards of £40 a month for it and it couldn't be justified.

that is not an option with the poor quality of online streaming though

Once high bandwidth is available to the masses in the UK a big company will buy online rights to the Premier League and that will really shake things up, currently the Networks could not handle the demand

It depends where you stream from. If you are watching a direct link to someones TV then the quality is just as good, which if you know where to look, you can find streams like this subscription free.

If you are watching some dodgy stream from arabia TV then its going to be awful quality.

Agreed. I've watched all our league games this season via online streaming (as well as last season's F1) and apart from one or two exceptions the quality has been absolutely fine.

I use sky broadband to do it too, so thank you sky for bringing me quality sporting entertainment for £25 a month (including line-rental and free weekend/evening landline calls) (y)

Even when it was all with Sky they made you pay twice, first with the sky sports packages and then with PremPlus package

Sounds great. If only I knew where to look.

Benfica have bought sole broadcasting rights for the EPL in Portugal, lol. It means if you want to watch some EPL, you've gotta subscribe to their club channel!

Portugese Journo on talksport said the premier league must have felt that taking the extra money from Benfica was more useful than the extra exposure going with one of the national networks, in a country that only has around 10,000,000 inhabitants.

Thankfully they didn't do that in the US. They decided to give the rights to NBC instead of the newly minted Al-Jazera owned sports network that no one gets.
