Our 3 main priorities at start of window were GK, CB (min of 1) and attacking midfielder/no.10 type.
If we sign VDV instead of topsoba then 2 ways of looking at our business. We will have signed our no.1 midfield target & no.2 GK and CB which can be argued is good.
Other way of looking at it is we have failed to secure 2 of our main 3 targets who were both a great age and represented less risk than the no.2 options particularly the GK who would have been a near guaranteed success as a signing can be given he knows the league, plays exactly the way we needed etc.

I flip flop between the 2 views but I'm more on the latter at minute
What makes you say we got our 2nd choice keeper?

When you have an attacking style of play, think you need at least one of your defenders to be someone who is a good one one defender especially in situations where you are left exposed. A strong, physical. mobile presence who can sweep up in that position. Similar to what Saliba does for Arsenal and Konate for Liverpool.

Tapsoba looks like he can do the same although to be fair VDV also appears to have the raw skills to do that but maybe he is a little behind Tapsoba in terms of experience and the level he has played at.

Can't help but feel we should be looking to get both especially given that been mentioned VDV could cover that LB role as well. Gives us to two players in the squad who have that ability for one on one defending. Although we are currently stacked with players at CB who are not good enough so obviously we need some outgoings to make this happen.

I don't really understand this whole going public with both Van De Ven and Tapsoba transfers when we clearly require both. Makes it feel really strange if/when we only capture one, truth is we need them both to get us to where we want to be again. Especially love that Van De Ven can cover at LB too, just makes too much sense not to get both done at around 80 million to me..

A bargaining tactic to drive down the price of both by making it public and creating panic that each club might lose out on a sale? We might genuinely be wanting to sign both but for now acting like we only want one. So long as it doesn't backfire or take too long, I can't say this would be a bad strategy.

My overly optimistic hope is that the reason the messages being pushed out of the club are one OR the other is to drive prices down on both.
Fingers crossed . If you could shift Japhet and Sanchez for reasonable fees you would be well on the way to cover VDV. Especially if we get Perisic and Lloris off the wage bill.

The suggestions floating around social media sites are that the reason the button has not been pressed on one or t’other is due to maybe pressing button on both if PEH deal gets sorted.

I think we also have in mind that before a decision needs to be made on whether it’s one or the other or both, we shift some players out and therefore have more money to feel comfortable about doing both deals.

Would make so much sense. Hopefully the club does something that makes sense.

I'm quite easy on this - with the new offside rule changes, I think the pace of VdV may well offset the better defensive qualities of Tapsoba.

would be amazing, but it’s just not going to happen imo. Hopefully one of them is signed before we fly out.

If we sell PEH there’s no reason why we couldn’t sign both.

His fee would pretty much cover all of Van De Ven’s.

I genuinely can't see why the PEH deal wouldn't get sorted, he wants out, we want out and he's a damn good player who does have interest. Surely we can act accordingly.

the new offside rule isnt in play until at least 24/25 season.
It is only being trialled in Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands.
There is no guarantee that it will even come in to law

2 weeks today till Spurs land here in Thailand. We're going to Australia first right? So we must be flying out for tour in what? 8-10 days?

I think it's crucial we have a new CB on the plane for that tour. I'm desperate for both VDV AND Tapsoba like many others and we can sort out a new midfielder/ Hojbjerg replacement (I'll beat the caqueret drum silently as this is not the thread nor have we been linked 🤣) as pre season goes on.

Center back is so crucial to this rebuild and both players improve the 1st team and squad massively.

I saw that but i didn’t really understand why that would stop us from getting one first. I’m more inclined to believe that it’s just down to Tapsoba being our primary target but we are just struggling to agree a fee we are happy with.

Hardly a big leap in saying that considering how the transfer played out as in us talking to Brentford to try and get their asking price down but they wouldn't budge so we moved on. ITKs on here have confirmed this is what we have done this summer and have commented how refreshing it is that we are willing to be decisive.

I think the fact we haven't gone ahead and pulled the trigger on VdV is encouraging for the Tapsoba deal at least.

Surely if there wasn't any chance of a deal we would've gone ahead and pulled the trigger on VdV by now.
