players like modric, kranjer, gudjohnson, are good enough to adapt,

Agree, they are intelligent players and I think they'll be comfortable switching styles and systems. We need to have different options without Lennon, the rigid 4-4-2 is causing us to struggle a bit.

Hello fellow yidsters!

Following on from Harry's latest quotes where he has said we might try and use a diamond formation with Gudjohnsen, I was wondering what our line-up would be to play this formation? Do we have the right players?

Harry said: "We've lost Aaron Lennon

[to injury] so we haven't got a great deal of width. We can play a diamond formation if we want to and he can be a big player in that system."

This?
Gomes

Hutton .... Dawson .... King ....... Bale

Palacios

Thudd .................. Modric

Gudjohnsen

Defoe ..... Crouch

Seems a little too attacking minded if you ask me...
Didn't we try this with keane, and it didn't work - makes me wonder, is Harry saying this will work because EG is a better player than keane?

I'd rather stick with the formation that has got us to 4th. I think every team needs a bit of width and I thought we looked far more balanced with at least one winger in the team the other night (even if he's not exactly pacey).

It's good to have another string to our bow though and if the 4-4-2 isn't working it's nice to have the option of going to something different. Not convinced Gudjohnsen can do a better job 'in the hole' than Modders or Kranky could though.

Maybe, seeing as we're likely getting Kaboul back, he meant a diamond defence:

------------Gomes------------
------------Dawson-----------
Corluka------------------Bale
----------Huddlestone-------
---Lennon--Palacios---Modric
--------Crouch---Defoe-----
------------Kaboul----------

Absolutely hilarious!

Really dont like the Idea of the diamond or one up front. It looks weak on the wings defensively and where teams have found us out recently, they "park the bus" in the middle. They sit very deep and our forward players can't get through. The way to deal with this is to keep a high front line of a 442. You have the stablility to hold the line when attacking deep in their half and can spread the play to the wings quickly. If the ball is intercepted whilst getting it into wide positions in a 442 you already have a solid formation to try to win it back.

In a diamond formation, you have to change back to get a solid line when on the defense and against counterattacking teams you're more likely to get punished.

That's what i expect he is thinking. Based on how he went against Chelsea and Arsenal, with Hudd in the hole and Palacios infield on the left (although with Modric instead of Jenas it would be the other way around). But i really dont like this formation. We have often struggled with this sort of thing. Not only the Arsenal and Chelsea games, but didn't Harry try something similar away to Wigan last season? It seems everytime we change the formation we struggle.

I think now is the time to give Bentley a run in the team. Even though he isn't at the top of his game, and lacks pace. He still gives us natural width on the right, and that allows more space for Huddlestone to string passes together, and Modric to come infield more.

This buy is perfect for when Spurs are lacking that creativity and breaking down teams that try to just hit on the counter i.e.(Hull Wolves).

EG is a good addition to the squad but I would have thought that he has more chance of getting time at the second striker rather than as amember of our midfield especially when Lennon returns. The person with the biggest worry here would be RK....
