They kept us out of the most prominent league in 1913, and history repeats itself 100 years later (by now keeping us out of top 4).. Club of :jimlad:.

I think allegiance is very important. Anyone who's decision could be bias should be removed from the decision process. Thus includes the anti football brigade.

Right. So a decision should be made by people who like football but don't root for a specific team, and people who don't mind football but are not quite sure what it is?

Pickles just wants his sandwich bill covered for the next 12 months, Spurs don't think £12m is a fair bribe

Lammy does have a valid point, why did it only take two months for the goons to get approval yet ours has been going on since we won the double....

It's an absolute bullshit story, if anyone wants to bother to read past the headline. At no point did Lammy blame Arsenal supporters for the delay. He asked a purely rhetorical question to make a general point about the delay and the Haringey Independent (whose coverage is generally pretty sensible) decided they might be able to sell a few extra papers by distorting it. And thus the thread fills with auto-pilot responses.

I think it's safe to say a man United fan isn't going to give two Shits about us, where as arsenal, Chelsea and, especially, west ham, would do everything they could to fuck us up.

Professionals don't act like that. That's why they called professional

Pickles made his name in Bradford so probably supports Bradford City. He is more concerned with his pies than anything else. He is probably more incompetant or trying to wriggle his way into Cameron's good books than worried about football. More concerning seems to be the complete disregard they all seem to have for the regeneration of Tottenham. Very different from their attitude to Islington and Stratford. Come on fatty, get your finger out and for once in your life put down your pie and do something right.

This a really misleading headline (in a newspaper? Really?). Think Lammy was just having a bit of a dig at Pickles - I don't think he was suggesting that there is a gooner conspiracy holding back developments in N17.

Ahem, just saw this response after I'd posted mine.... yes, that.

This is what The Honourable Member for Tottenham, David Lammy said

'You have made much in the House of accelerating development on brownfield land and (Mr Pickles) has said a lot about speeding up planning.

Can you say why the development for Spurs, which is currently with the department on CPO, has been with the department for 14 months, might you reach a decision shortly and can you confirm (Mr Pickles) is in fact not an Arsenal supporter?'

Rather than a cheap Spurs/Arsenal shot Lammy might have done better to represent his constituents and ask why the entire regeneration project in North Tottenham is being delayed by the Communities Secretary's inability to make a decision on something that has been with him for for the last 14 months.

He might also have mentioned that this project is supported, and would be partially funded by, Government and The Mayor of London.

He might also have mentioned that in August 2011 (for the 2nd time in less than 30 years) there was a riot in his constituency that spread not just to other parts of the Capital but major cities throughout the country. He could have reminded the Secretary of State for Communities of some of the things said about deprived areas like Tottenham by politicians at the time.
He might have suggested that very little has been done since and could have asked whether it would take another large scale riot before the Secretary of State pulls his finger out ..... but no, he makes a cheap joke and asks whether he might be a gooner!

This is not just about Tottenham Hotspur FC and a new stadium.

I would like to ask David Lammy whether he is a serious politician representing people in a deprived area as he doesn't seem to have a clue as to what he should be asking?

Edit - I've since emailed Mr Lammy asking the very same thing!

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if it came down to this. Public sector offices are odd places.

I don't think he meant it, but the Arsenal quip has meant it's being reported if nothing else. Probably counterproductive mind.
