Keep King, Woodgate, Dawson and Kaboul, two world class and two promising centre backs.

As good as that sounds on paper, it's seeming less and less likely we'll see King and Woodgate as a regular partnership. If this is indeed the case, there's surely no doubt that Ramos will bring in another top-class central defender. Which will mean we have five. So it probably won't be as clear-cut as that

If Dawson is on his way out then we must be getting in at least two better CBs. King will never give us a full season again, that's for sure. Gardner and Rocha are as good as gone so that would leave Woodgate and Kaboul.

Garay's transfer to Barca has collapsed (see thread in General Football). Given he's regarded as the "next great Argentine CB", and we were allegedly trying to sign him in January, I would be fairly confident that we're back in for him.

We've also been linked with Udinese's Dossena.

Is Jarque slipping off the radar? I notice Espanyol were thumped 4-0 by Murcia at the weekend.

I'd like to see Dawson stay and develop his game at WHL. Ever since his debut against Liverpool I liked the lad.

He will get chances with us due to the injuries/fitness of Woodgate & King and should think about that. Even if we get another top quality CB he'll get chances against the lesser lights of the premier league & cup games.

I don't see any benefit of moving to Newcastle other than shipping in loads of goals and winning nothing therefore ruining his confidence as a player... Maybe they'll pay him 100 grand per week, that'll be a benefit.

What's the point?!

Keep King, Woodgate, Dawson and Kaboul, two world class and two promising centre backs.

Just make sure that when King and Woodgate are out, play Hudd or Zoko at the back as Daws and Kaboul can't yet play together.

just realised, Younes cost more than Woodgate

Fourthed (?).

It's the perfect blend. Two world-class but injury-prone experienced players backed up by two young and powerful guys who are as hard as nails.

Along with Hutton and Bale, deputised by Chimbonda/Gilberto/Gunter, we finally have the perfect mix for our defence.

Get rid of the dead wood in Gardner, Rocha (a quality player but clearly not going to feature for Ramos), Ekotto and Lee (a player I like and who rarely lets us down, but again clearly not a favourite with the management) and we're sorted.

Right, time to splash some cash on the midfield.

i rele dont rate kaboul and dont think he will turn into a top defender, so i'd much sooner see him leave then Dawson who looks a rock for us next to someone who can defend (i.e. King or Woodgate)

Would be disappointed to see Daws go, I dont think he is the calamity that alot of people think. Shouldn't forget one of our best defensive seasons in years was with King and Daws at the back, so he can't be that bad. He's still young as well, would be surprised if he doesn't improve further. Well worth retaining for me

Before this year, he's been superb for us.

He looked great next to Woodgate on Saturday and i'd be very dissapointed if we let him go, still young and has so much potential.

I know Portsmouth weren't exactly the most threatening team in the world on Saturday, but I thought next to Woodgate he looked very composed and sturdy. It was the same when he was playing next to King on a regular basis.

I'd love to keep him as I think that as long as he has one of these two next to him he can do a great job. And he's certainly got the right attitude. If he ever wants to leave though...........

I agree we should keep him for that reason as a squad player, but, but it seems that he wants 1st team football. Realistcally, if King reutrns next season alongside Woodgate, he wont be 1st choice.

I'd rather we didn't sell Dawson, I've always liked him, he has a good understanding with Ledley and seems to partner Woodgate also; and I've never been impressed with Kaboul

I've always assumed Chimbonda will leave in the Summer, we have Hutton now, Bale will be back and we got Gilberto in, and his attitude stinks

With him gone I'd hope we buy in a defender able to play at both right and centre-back (Garay is one such defender...) to provide us with strong cover all across the back four - Bale and Gilberto at left-back (Assou-Ekotto to cover); King Woodgate Dawson and the new boy at centre-back (Kaboul to cover); Hutton and the new boy at right-back (Gunter to cover). I'd favour one signing rather than two as that way we have more likelihood of buying in quality who we can offer football too - rather than a mediocre player expecting to be on the bench - and less likely to unsettle current players like Dawson who are valuable to the club

Fairly clear that Lee, Gardner, Rocha and Stalteri will be clearing off
