Loads of reports linking Daws with a move to Newcastle, dont think he would hang around to be a squad player,so maybe some truth hes on his way out ?

Not a big fan of Dawson, don't think he really adds anything & he's not progessed in 2 years.

I know Portsmouth weren't exactly the most threatening team in the world on Saturday, but I thought next to Woodgate he looked very composed and sturdy. It was the same when he was playing next to King on a regular basis.

I'd love to keep him as I think that as long as he has one of these two next to him he can do a great job. And he's certainly got the right attitude. If he ever wants to leave though...........

Given Ashley has allegedly lost £129 million in a spread bet on HBOS (see General Football thread), and is therefore willing to give his money away, I'd ask for £10 million & Charles N'Zgobia.

However, I'd accept £7 million.

He's very young for the responsibilities he's had most of last season and the beginning of this.

I reckon he will be a great CB in two - three years time - much like Rio Ferdinand took time when at West Ham then Leeds to become the player he is today.

If we have to replace him it'll take close to £10mill to improve on his assets. Maybe less if we go continental, but offset that saving against the gamble of whether that player would come in running and do a job. (Think Wilfred Bouma...)

I love Daws as you can't buy his kind of commitment, but you can buy better players so I think unless he is happy being a squad player he will be off ! He's good enough to be a good prem player, but we are looking for that next step up now.

Would be happy if he stayed though.

i think you'd do well to find someone with the heading ability of daws. most set pieces he is the one to get his head onto it and clear the ball, and most of our corners.

Like ds said with a regular centre back partner he does well and looks a good player. But as soon as one of those or both are missing he turns into titus bramble.

What's the point?!

Keep King, Woodgate, Dawson and Kaboul, two world class and two promising centre backs.

Just make sure that when King and Woodgate are out, play Hudd or Zoko at the back as Daws and Kaboul can't yet play together.

just realised, Younes cost more than Woodgate

Gives everything, great header of the ball, seems to have a good attitude generally and he is still young so there is potential for improvement. Often overlooked is his ability to pick out forward players with a long pass. I think he is quite similar to John Terry and if he fulfills potential I could see him becoming an England regular.

I guess it boils down to whether Ramos sees a future for him. From Dawson's point of view he has a choice of staying and fighting for a first team place, which could mean another season or two as back-up to Woodgate and King, or a regular 1st team place somewhere else. I think most mid-table premiership clubs would consider him if he was available.

Personally I hope he stays with us and he develops into a top-notch CM defender in the mould of John Terry / Terry Butcher. However if Martin Jol takes over at Newcastle next season I can see Dawson choosing to leave.

but being 3rd choice isnt really 3rd choice with king and woodgate in the top 2, its more like joint 2nd as he will still get 30 odd games a year

think all these rumours are just tabloid crap designed to fill the inches

It would be a shame for Dawson to end his career at such a young age :-(

Thirded. And as above, as long as Dawson plays with King or Woody he'll continue his apprenticeship. He still really needs one of them but one day he won't and we'll be all the better for it rather than rolling the dice again on Carlos Defendalot.

For the present at least, Ramos clearly prefers him to Kaboul; given that we're unlikely to see Ledders featuring in more than one game in three for the rest of this season (and who knows whether that situation will improve next season?), that makes Dawson de facto first choice alongside Woody. I know that's hard for some SCers to accept or even grasp, but you have the evidence of your eyes.

Just speculative bollocks.

If Dawson is on his way out then we must be getting in at least two better CBs. King will never give us a full season again, that's for sure. Gardner and Rocha are as good as gone so that would leave Woodgate and Kaboul.
