another name for the list...

This really does sound like scraping the bottom of the barrel if true!
I bloody well hope not.

Little story, I went to watch Sporting last year while my brother was visiting. He asked me who are Sportings best players to which I pointed to Fernandes, Nani and then pointed to Dost stating that this is the guy who grabs a load of goals.

Dost had started warming up his finishing.
First shot ......about 5 yards over the bar.
Second shot.......about 3 yards wide.
Third shot.....about 4 yards over.
Fourth shot....crashes the cross bar.

My brother "Are you sure this guy is the top Goalscorer?"

He did score two goals in that game but they were also playing the team rock bottom.

He's very very poor.

This is the dumbest link of the window so far - he basically kept Southampton up last season, they would want at least £50m and as we know we aren’t paying even half that.

unfortunately this link makes me think we’re flapping around again with no viable targets.

Welcome Troy!!!
You obviously haven’t seen the Bas Dost link from the Mail yet.

He's scored a substantial amount of goals for someone of that description.

Don't be fooled!!

It's true he had some very good streaks even scoring 34 in 31 games but that was when he had Gelson, Bruno and was in a decent Sporting team. Some of the Portuguese teams are truly dreadful.

I suppose you could level that at Vinicius, however Dost has nothing else to his game.

I like Ings but I actually think this would be silly for the likely price.

Agreed, especially if you could get Wout or Edouard for less. Ings is thriving now because he's playing regularly, he didn't do well as a bit part player for Liverpool.

I'm pretty sure Ings would not want to repeat his Liverpool experience and sit on the bench again.

I know what you mean, but I don't think he'll see it like that. The situation at Liverpool was very different, as he was signed under Rodgers, who promptly got fired. The day Klopp took over he did his cruciate ligament and was out for the rest of that season and the entire of the following season. By the time he was i jury free, he was trying to get match sharpness in a side that didn't play with a conventional striker. I know he can play elsewhere, but he's hardly top class as a wide forward, so was never going be able to compete with Mane and Salah. But for us, he's being signed as a striker and for a coach that wants him, so I think he'd see it as an entirely different proposition. He's bound to get lots of game time with us, but at Liverpool, that simply wasn't the case, as they usually don't really even play with a striker.

If we're gonna spunk £40-50m i'd rather it be on a younger striker, i'd also be dead against that sort of money full stop if it means we can't get some creativity in CM.

I'd rather us just get a decent battering ram in for a cheap fee and spend that cash on a quality CM to really bolster us.

Would be surprised if anything happened with Ings. Already spent time at Liverpool struggling to get into the team and suffered 2 cruciate injuries while there. Probably valuing just being able to play every other week at Southampton. Suppose always a possibility if we are prepared to cough up what Southampton would want but with him being 28, not sure we'll be prepared to meet the numbers they'd probably want for their top scorer.

I don't see how we do this now without Ndombele leaving. We have to rely on Gio and Tanguy IMO.

Unless Joe Lewis has bunged Levy a sizeable transfer kitty there is no way we are getting Ings as well as Bale and Reguilon.

If we still have circa 50M to blow, it should be on Zakaria. Talk about freeing up our new toys at fullback to get up the pitch and locking in a great midfield for the next decade - wow. Get Bas Dost in for 5M and party time.
