looking at our starting 11, our second 11 is really strong when all fit, plus harrys using the youngsters more which is great to see.

Freidel
Walker Gallas King BAE
Sandro Parker
VdV Modric Bale
Adebayor

Gomes
Corluka Dawson Kaboul Rose
Lennon Huddlestone Livermore Kranjcar
Defoe Pav

plus Cudicini, Pienaar, Bassong, Kane, Dos Santos, Townsend

thats definitely a strong squad with Cup winning potential :)

I'd like to see us go for a cup but City's second lineup is pretty impressive.

Yes, we should be winning a cup with our reserves. The problem is getting Redknapp to adopt this. He either takes it too seriously and puts out too good a team, or doesn't take it seriously enough and puts out a ridiculously weakened team as if playing Kranjcar or Pav in the cups would be a bad thing.

I don't agree with your selections but I don't agree with Redknapps usually. Still, two strong sides would be better than one strong but tired side even if Pav and Lennon got dropped from the A team

I think we can't afford to play adebayor (fear of stupid injuries and tiring as he didnt have a proper pre-season) in cup games and harry knows that so i doubt he will ever play him in anything other than the PL/fa cup at least before january when we can get some worthy backup. I think he'll overplay the rest of the "first team" players though.. hope not.

we are 6th favorites to win the Carling Cup at 14/1

we are 6th favorites to win the FA Cup at 14/1

we are 2nd favorites to win the Europa League at 12/1

I don't really think a Cup is ours to lose at all, in fact to win a Cup this season would be a great achievement but 4th place or higher in the league is much more important

No cup is ours to lose, it's a cup competition and we could get turned over in any match so let's not get ahead of ourselves. Stoke will be a very tough match and there are some very good teams in the EL even before the CL losers.

stoke will not be easy to beat they never are, lets beat them first and see who we get next round. And at the moment utd, city and chelski are all determined to win everything!

:eek:mg:

Well, there have been plenty of knee-jerk pessimism threads, so I guess a knee-jerk optimistic one redresses the balance a bit

But, really, we have a had a couple of good performances, and I stand by my pre-season assessment that we are prime contenders for a top four spot (something I maintained after the first two games), but the cups ours to lose - catch on to yourself, fella

Those Europa odds are pretty stingy
