Well I mean on our bench - donkey, Phillips, veliz….obviously I know them just being hyperbolic but I bet most neutrals wouldn’t know who these players are

Not saying it’s a barometer of their ability or potential, but it is an indication of the threadbare nature of our squad that we have basically no one to bring on when seeking an equalizer

Solomon came on. Johnston, bentencur and Perisic all injured and no idea what's happened to lo celso.

Remove them and we will look a bit lightweight. We have a bloated squad if you include players out on loan also.

Sanchez and NDomBelly were still here at close of window, they only left after too

I was going to say that Sanchez wouldn't be an option to put on if chasing a goal..... not worked for past managers.

Would you be saying this if we hadn't suffered injuries to Bentancur, Solomon, Perisic, Johnson & Lo Celso?

EDIT:
+ Sessegnon
+ Gil

That's six attacking options injured, plus a top quality CM. If that didn't leave us short of established options on the bench, we'd surely have too many established players to register.

Well you'd certainly be expecting every one of those to be replacing players currently on the bench if not starting in some cases.

Be interesting to see how this plays out. No matter who the manager is in a few weeks, he’ll be under pressure to start the big signings like Lavia, Enzo & Caicedo. Throw in the fact that Gallagher is homegrown, and maybe they’ll still sell in January.

A window of Kelly, Jota & Gallagher is probably optimistic, but maybe not impossible.

I honestly don’t know why Chelsea would sell him in general let alone to us but if they still will I’m fairly sure he will be our top target when we sell PEH. I get the contract situation but I can’t imagine it would be that hard to sign him to a new deal if they really wanted him to stay.

Depends if he wants to stay? If he doesn't it's very hard for them to get him to sign a new deal.

It’s their business model. Sell youth products for as much as possible as you can put 100% of the fee on the balance sheet. They’re going to be well short of FFP come accounts time and selling him would go a long way to making up the difference. As far as the powers that be there are concerned, they have spent nigh on 200 million combined to sign Lavia, Caiceido, and Enzo, so what do they need Gallagher for?

I doubt whether Poch rates/wants him will come into the decision.

Supposedly he’s a Chelsea fan and everything I’ve read seems to suggest he’d prefer to stay. Sure that could have changed but considering he’s been playing regularly and captaining the side it would be strange to be looking to leave.

Depends on how he thinks it will go there. Would he rather stay there if they keep going the way they have and be mid table again? Or move to a club that will suite his play more? Not saying that is us though.

Money wise, he will get more at Chelsea, but then how long until poch is gone and the next manager comes in, they might not see him as a starter again (again we have gone through managers recently, but looking better with Ange)

I think he’d be a great signing for us and Ange’s system. He’d certainly be a very welcome addition to our midfield cohort. He’d have no guarantee of being a nailed on starter here, but I suspect the point is to build to a place where no one is.

I can’t see his squad role here being much different to his at Chelsea. Maybe he’s become disenfranchised or maybe the powers that be at Chelsea have told him the lay of the land and he doesn’t like the look of it (or his place within it).

Having Bissouma, Maddison, Sarr, Bentancur, and Gallagher means that we’d be be able to cope with injuries and the (hopefully) increased workload of elite European football in the future. Skipp provides deeper cover and adds to the HG contingent, and then there’s scope for Devine, Donley (who’s looking more like a 10) and Moore to come through in time from the youth set up. Hojbjerg, by the sounds of it, is most likely off (and Gallagher represent a more mobile addition). I’m not sure where it’d leave Lo Celso, hard to know his long term future - he had a good pre-season, Ange spoke positively of him, but he’s once again been blighted by injury.

They want to sell him because he would be 40 mil of profit to help offset their books for FFP. Whether they want to or not, they have put themselves in a corner a little bit, especially if they want to splash on a Striker, he would be the one to get axed.
