Here are some explanations of what’s going on at Olympique de Marseille.
Current Owner Margarita Louis Dreyfus decided a few months ago to sell the Club.
Some interests are being shown to buy the Club from foreign investors but nothing serious yet.

To be able to play in the same League the next year, french clubs must have balanced the books by the end of the current year.

Deficits are not allowed in french football.
If you have deficits the DNCG (Direction Nationale de Contrôle de Gestion); the “ french economic football police” can decide to sanction the Clubs whose books aren’t balanced.
It can go from relegation of the concerned club from 1 to several divisions (levels).
Or to decide the club in bankrupt.

OM president Vincent Labrune has to explain how he‘ll manage to balance the annual accounts (2015-2016) to the DNCG
in Paris on the Thurday 23.06.16.
Currently the 2015-2016 OM’s accounts show a 40 M Euro deficit.( £32 M ).

On the 23rd June, Labrune will have the explain the members of the DNCG how he will manage to have balanced the books.
The books must be balanced by the 31th June.
Indeed, the books must be balanced by the last day of June.
The account year for french football clubs go from 1st July to 31st July.

Owner Margarita Louis Dreyfus advised President Labrune several months ago that she won’t put in a single Euro
comes the end of June to balance the books.
It could have allowed him more time to sell players for a better price.

To summary, OM President must guarantee this thursday 23rd June that he will have find 40 M Euro within one week.
And that he is not financially backed-up at all by the OM owner MLD.

Labrune needs to find 40 M Eur urgently.
That’s why he estimated Batshuay value at 40M Euros. West Ham already made an 40 M Eur offer for Batshuayi weeks ago.
Marseille were ok with the price but Batshuayi refused to go to Hammers because he tells that absolutely wants to play CL football next year.

West Ham has even less chances to sign Lacazette than Batshuayi.
Olympique Lyonnais will play CL football next week and Lacazette isn’t desperate to leave Lyon.

Lyon are in good financial shape and unless a 50 M Euro check to arrive in Jean Michel Aulas’s desk (OL Owner and President)
from a CL Club Lacazette is interested to play for; Lacazette might not leave Lyon this summer.
West Ham will not sign Batshuayi and will not sign Lacazette either.

Brilliant post. Thank you.

Fair point, but we have loads of options for the 3. No need to shoehorn a striker there.

Dier was a centre back. If you've got the skills....

But I agree, he is a striker. That said he is more skilful than your typical striker. He could do it. I just love the idea of it. Him and Kane would make sweet music together :)

He's not a proper lone CF though. His best periods have been playing off a target man - Gignac

He's a lot like Vardy IMO
Nope. Marseille played the majority of the season in a 4-2-3-1, with Batshuayi as the lone striker. While they switched to a 4-4-2 later in the season, the majority of Batshuayi's goals came in the first half, where they played 4-2-3-1 (primarily because Michy was their only striker).

In the 14/15 season, Batshuayi was on the bench most of the time, and when he did come on, he usually replaced Gignac, so he barely played with him.

Gignac transferred to Mexico last year. Batshuayi was then just a back up to him. It's only since he left that he's established himself at OM.

IMO - signing Batshuayi to play wide is nonsensical and I doubt he would agree if those were the terms. He's an established striker, like Janssen and Kane. If we had designs to play any of these players wide, I wish we'd just sign a wide player instead. I doubt thats the case.

If you lend me £10,000, I'll pay you back £100,000 on 31th June

As a note to some of the stories above, I did read earlier that Diarra would be a free transfer so not worth anything to them.

I also suspect that whilst they may demand more money for Batshuayi, we are more likely to give them less the more we actually pay them up front. I agree with some of the above comments though that when 'sold' that the full amount of money would basically be registered for account reasons.

Benjamin Mendy to undergo Monaco medical on Wednesday. Set to be OM's first major sale & will pen 5 year deal (€12m fee) - L'Equipe

Edit - I posted this because a) OM's financial situation is relevant to Batshuayi and b) I am a sad bastard who clings onto any news, however slim the relevance, to THFC.

Exactly (although, I think at least one of those will be sold). I do not think we would be signing Batshuayi to play wide forward. Most young strikers start out there but that doesn't mean that they want to continue there. I highly doubt Batshuayi will be happy in that role.

I could actually see a situation where Wet Spam end up with Batman and we go for Janssen + an AM instead.

Batshuayi doesn't seem as hell bent on CL as Lacazette and I think WH are much more willing to pay Marseille's asking price than we are. I think that type of situation plays more into their favour than ours.

best send that to Levy "cue €28m" bid

apparently we held talks with the player in March, so if he is interested he most probably knows he will either start wide or be on the bench, and over the last 58 pages I'm sure it has been said that he wants to join.

It would not surprise me if we went down the Janssen + AM route as we'd probably get both for the same price as Batshuayi but I think Batshuayi has already rejected West Ham and is rumoured to be interesting Atleti, juve and even Chelsea. He can then better than end up being announced by some 12 year old rich brat on twitter. He also appears quite happy at OM so there is a small chance he'll just stay there rather than go to West Ham.

I think Everton will end up splashing the Lukaku money on Batshuayi, if he doesn't stay at Marseille now they've got investment.

Nigel, there was literally one story about a possible takeover. They do not (yet) have 'investment'.

Wasn't the most recent story that Batshuayi had told West Ham to fuck off?

If he signs for us, we so have to make that into a chant for when he scores. If he scores. :(

No, I believe that was Lacazette who told them no on no uncertain terms.

I believe Batshuayi merely favours us over them, except if this keeps drawing on past the Euros he may pick them because Marseille may dig their heels in.

It was both of them according to French media.
