Well he pretty much never ever ever loses the ball when in possession, is one of our strongest if not strongest players physically (and mentally), is a good passer, can make forward runs, has very good positioning, has played DM before and by all accounts was great there, and he says it's his natural position. He should be given a chance there and if he isn't we are wasting big opportunity.

Excuse my ignorance but could we call back O'Hara if we got stretched in midfield? Or is it not that kind of deal?

Hamann was never mobile...one helluva DM player though, arguably one of the best the prem has seen.

He does seem to laid back for me .. in fact he does make me nervous sometimes. So DM is not his position. But in 'Arry I do trust !

shouldnt you be normally pacy at right back, i dont think corluka is really speedy but he is as fast or faster than huddlestone, the other factor is positioning which pretty much is the decider on being a DM , Carrick was never speedy but had great awareness.

Corluka isn't the issue here, the real question to be answered is:

Is Gary Docherty a Striker or Defender?

Corluka is a great footballer. He could play most positions as he has a brilliant footballing brain. I believe he is vastly under-rated mainly due to the fact he is not lightning quick.

My favourite spurs player at the moment.

Do you think Harry is considering sticking Corluka in at DM for tough matches?

We've got cover with Hutton and Naughton at Right Back

Would you?

The original post suggested playing Corluka with Wilson in tough matches. I think that it would be highly unlikely that Harry would do this from choice unless all the other potential partners (JJ/Hudd/Krankjar/Modric) for Wilson were unavailable. If Harry had been so minded he would have played Corluka there against Liverpool.

If Wilson is unavailable, however, it is a different situation. When Wilson was unavailable at the tail-end of last season, Harry stuck with JJ/Hudd/Zokora but it can be argued that there was little at stake. I am no great fan of a JJ/Hudd midfield but the options are limited.

Corluka has limited experience as a DM and it would be a risk to play him out of position. A Hudd/Corluka central midfield would be vulnerable due to its lack of mobility.

Some posters have suggested King but I still get shivers when I remember his last game in that position; for England against Argentina. That night Riquelme played him off the park. Riquelme has no pace but consistently lost Ledley.

Of those on our books, I can only see O'Hara covering for Wilson but that depends on the terms of his loan to Pompey. Perhaps, we should have gone after Tainio in the last window. Given a similar training regime to Ledley, we may have been able to keep him fit.

i wouldn't consider it and i doubt 'arry would. he doesn't have the speed of decision or the range of passing needed from what i've seen

Corluka is only 24, as well (I think). A very good young player. GREAT footballing brain as a poster said above.

"Nice one Charlie, nice one son..."...

Actually, could we get that song going? "nice one Charlie, nice one son"?
It would be great :)

he's a great RB but i think he'd be lost out of defence. not just the mobility that most ppl have mentioned but the range of passing

Define 'mobility'—and there's not too much wrong with his passing, either in range or accuracy.
